Looks like I HAVE A DATE!
Oct 15, 2009
Not exactly what I wanted but I have a date none the less. January 5th 2010 looks like it will be my new rebirthday! I got the letter from my insurance company stating that I have to wait the one year from the date insurance became effective to have the surgery which means after Jan 1. The kicker is they said "bariatric surgery and related costs" and I'm afraid the related costs may include all the pre-op I've already finished and they have already paid for... So, I don't want to rock any boats by doing a second appeal for something that is going to happen anyway. I will just have to learn patience?

More waiting...
Oct 10, 2009
Well, I called the HR dept at work yesterday and they had received my appeal letter and supporting documentation from my orthopedic surgeon and they didn't say NO! They told me they had forward it to my insurance company for approval and would be in touch soon!! Yippee. I'm really excited but now I'm waiting for the sleep results AND the insurance approval. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Waiting is not my thing.

Waiting for sleep study results
Waiting to hear if my insurance appeal goes through to move my surgery date from January to ASAP
Waiting for a surgery date!
I am not good at waiting for everything, all my girls were born early and I always say it is because I am not very patient!!

Sheesh, I totally forgot!

As I was leaving work on Friday I happened to check the fax machine and the letter from my orthopeadic surgeon was there! I'm going to submit that letter with one that I wrote to appeal my work rule that I wait until January for my surgery. I am in so much pain that I want to go tomorrow!! Keep your fingers and toes crossed that they will allow me to go early. All of my pre-op stuff is finished as of this Tuesday so it is a waiting game now.

Weigh in day!!
Oct 01, 2009
Woo hoo. Never thought I would be happy to get on the scale but today I went to the doc for my monthly weigh in and I've lost 4.8 lbs!! I didn't think I'd lost anything because my scales at work were not moving but I had lost and a pretty good amount to. Sleep study coming up on Tuesday. I'm praying so hard that I don't have bad apnea so I will not need the CPAP. The doc said he thinks I have a good chance of being okay because of all the previous surgeries I've been through without problems. Let's hope so. This is the last hurdle before the long wait for a surgery date!! UGH. :)

Ranting and what not!
Sep 29, 2009
Okay first.... I am furious with my father in law x10!!! Everyone is always watching the fat girl (me) and what I put in my mouth. So Sunday while at my mother in laws birthday party I brought yogurt and SF choc pudding so I would not eat anything high cal and I had not had lunch (it was around 2:30pm). Everyone was sitting around and there was some veggie ranch dip and veggies so while I was leaning over to have ONE he snapped a picture of me and said "whoa, you're gonna love that when you look back at it later." then he leaned over and showed my husband! UGH I thought I might be over it by now but I am still boiling mad! I so wanted to break that camera over his head!
My next small issue is with the before and after pics (and this is meant with much love) PEOPLE when you are taking your new smaller pics take off the oversized clothes and put on something that fits! You've worked hard for that smaller you and you should show it off. WOO HOO, we are proud of you, be proud of yourself. I know buying clothing frequently can get expensive but just an outfit for the pic would be great. :)
and... on a less contentious note, I met with the sleep doctor today and my sleep study is scheduled for October 6th it is the last of the pre-op testing so after that I will have to wait for a surgery date which may be as long as January! God, please sprinkle me with some patience! I am still waiting for the letter from my orthopedic doc urging them to do this WLS sooner rather then later but it will come.
Thanks for listening everyone. Hope you are having a great day.

So much going through my head!

I don't have to tell you all how excited I am anticipating this surgery and the new life that is ahead of me! I am hoping when I go back to work on Monday the letter from my orthopeadic surgeon will be waiting for me and I can get the ball moving. I have a consult with the sleep doc on Tuesday and tenative sleep study on October 6th. Not sure I need it but I'm sure he will tell me.
My mom had her colon resection on Thursday and is doing fairly well. She came out without a colostomy so we were thrilled! She is being discharged today. Still not much appetite and still feels blah but I know she will get better soon. That has been one big weight off my shoulders!
Lets hope for some weight loss this week. I've been stuck at 279 for about 2 weeks and I dont know what to do. Even with the colon prep I didn't lose a pound! Currently I am looking for an elliptical to purchase to get on the exercise train!! Maybe that will help.
Have a great week everyone!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow is my colonoscopy and EGD so that means today is the prep! Oh, is this yucky! I have a headache, feel like I'm gonna puke and I'm running to the bathroom every 15 mins.... I guess the good thing is it won't last forever and we've decided to have a turkey dinner tomorrow night for my first bites of food after this procedure. I'm a little nervous since my sister has colon cancer and so far all of my other tests have been perfect so I keep thinking something has to go wrong. After this my sleep study on October 6th then I'm done and ready for surgery! Mentally I was ready yesterday, I met a man who had a RNY the other day I saw him less then 24 hrs after at the hospital where I work and he looked great. I am very hopeful that this will be behind me soon. Yesterday I packed up all of my summer clothes that are size 24/22 and said goodbye forever because I will not be this big again for summertime! That is something to look forward to for sure! Hope everyone has a great Monday. Think of me!
Getting Started!
Sep 11, 2009
Hi, My name is Kelly, I'm 46 years old and I am a nurse. I have three girls ages 20, 16, and 10 and a Hubby who is not so understanding. He says "you don't eat that much anyway so why do you need this surgery." There is no explaining to anyone that hasn't been big what it means to have a chance to be smaller! I can't wait.
Well, I finally decided to do it! After being fat forever it seems I am going to take the plunge and have the RNY, probably January (due to insurance rules). After speaking to a ton of people that have "been there" they say it is hard but well worth the effort! I just can't wait. I get especially excited when I see other peoples before/after pics. Keep posting, it's so inspirational!
