10/16/06 Hi All, Well I guess I lost all of my old posts when I went to the new format. I began this journey in June 2005 and was finally able to have my Gastric Bypass Surgery on August 22, 2006. When I began this process I weighed 308. I lost 25 lbs pre-op by doing OptiFast and have lost another 35 since surgery. I was approved for my surgery after going through a six month supervised diet by my doctor and then another 2 months added on and many, many medical tests. My surgery was okay. I had it laprascopic but it took a LONG time because my liver was very large. I was pretty bruised and sore. I will be 7 weeks post-op tomorrow and am now feeling fine. The worse part about this for me is not being able to take Ibeprofin. I have inflamation in my shoulder and it hurts a lot. I am doing okay with the eating but have thrown up a few times from eating too fast or not chewing enough. I am definitely learning...
I started out with a BMI of 54 and now it is 44.8. I did this surgery because of my sugar diabetes. My sugar is great now. My A1C was 5.9 from a blood test taken 9/30/06. Pretty exciting!! I used to take 2 pills and 4 shots a day and now I just take 1 shot at night. Thirty units of Lantus and that is it! Soon, I will be off that too. Many hugs to all and best wishes for those just starting the journey. You won't regret it.
