Medical Alert Tags

Apr 25, 2009

One of my dearest online friends that I have known since 1997 just started a laser design business!  So, she made me the much needed Medical Alert Dog tag that I have been looking to purchase.  She has offered to make tags for others and only charge $5.00 plus $1.00 shipping.  If you have looked to purchase one, you KNOW how expensive they can be.  I just received mine this week and I am thrilled with it!  I put my name, date of birth, surgery type and date along with NO blind NG and No NSAIDS.  The front has the medical alert symbol and the back, my personal information. I am wearing it proudly and love it.  If you are interested in an inexpensive Medical "dog tag" her email address is
[email protected] or she has a website.  www.easttnlaserdesign.blogspot.com You might have to type the address in your browser window, since it seems that OH's links will not work here.

Her name is Amy and she is trustworthy.  Let her know that Linda sent you to her business to get the $5.00 price.  I will try and post a pic when I can.

One month check-up

Mar 04, 2009

Well, I had my one month check-up with Dr. Suh.  I was looking forward to hearing the results of my bloodwork that I took over a week ago, but Kaiser had not sent them to him, so I am still in the dark as to why I get times of being so tired.  And Kaiser's appt desk could not get me an appt with Dr Provonsha, as requested by the program, until another 3 weeks!  So, I phoned Kaiser today and asked the head RN, to please have someone check my bloodwork and phone me with the results ASAP.  The good news is I have lost 19.5 lbs since surgery.  It is slower than I would like, but I am pleased that I am going DOWN.  Now, I progress to real food.  I can try anything except grapes, beef and pork.  I can certainly deal with that.  I am limited to 2 oz meals, 4-5 meals a day if needed.  My plan is today I am going to Costco for one of those roasted chickens and pray I can eat a 2 oz portion without complications.  Costco chickens are very moist, so I am hopeful.

Soooo tired almost 4 weeks out!

Feb 27, 2009

Some days it is an effort to even lift my arms, I am so tired.  I am getting close to 60 mg protein and about the same of water per day, and taking all my vitamins, but something is clearly lacking!  I had bloodwork drawn last week, so hopefully it will show what is going on.  I am still on mushy food, but next week should progress to some vegs and chicken.  I am sure looking forward to that!

Almost went to ER!!

Feb 12, 2009

I have been allowed new foods this week, so I was trying one of them this week:  salmon!  I sprayed Pam in the pan and 'fried' it.  Maybe ONE- two ounces. Well, I knew it was too dry,but added a bit of liquid and enjoyed it.  I chewed a whole lot.  That was at 5 PM.  By 9 PM my stomach was hurting so bad.  Cramping.  Horrible pains.  Nothing I could do helped!  By midnight it was excruciating.  I seriously considered I might be dying.  I figure that the food was stuck and I am sure it was!  At 3:00 AM I phoned the emergency number for my surgeon.  He phoned me back and told me if it did not get better within two hours to go to the ER! He did not act like it was life or death, so that calmed me a bit.  By 4:30 AM, I was dozing and my stomach finally was calming down!  Thank you, God!!

Today, I have had liquids ONLY and am afraid to try anything new.  Please be careful everyone.  It was a horrendous night that I would not wish on my worst enemy.

One week post op

Feb 10, 2009

One week post op!  Well, I went to the doctor with much fear and trembling.    I was so afraid that I would not have lost any weight.  My scale at home did not show much if any weight loss.  Well, I did lose, but not much.  4.5 lbs.  I guess this ride down the weight scale will be a slower one.  I am grateful for those 4.5 lbs, though.  The best part of my doctor visit:  My diet has progressed to stage three:  pureed foods, tuna or other moist fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.  I am so happy.  I am doing the happy dance!    Nothing but liquids was like being tortured a long and slow death. I had cottage cheese tonight with some Mrs. Dash on it and I am in heaven and finally feel like I am not hungry for the first time in over a week.  Who would think we could love cottage cheese so much!!

A reality check

Feb 07, 2009

I kind of relate my journey to a "food detox"  like an alcoholic would do in a detox program and then a lifelong rehab program.  Seriously.  We have addicts in our family that have hit their LOWS with their addictions but now are several years out in their successes! They came to absolutely know without doubt, that they cannot do, ever again, whatever their addiction was, or they will be at "day one" all over again.  Before I considered this surgery, I was at my low. And that is exactly how I know it would be for me. I am obviously a food addict.  I cannot lose site of where I came from, what I had to do to get where I am today, and what I have to do to succeed, I must never, ever again eat those trigger foods and never ever overeat.  Or for me,  my body would say, "GAME ON!"  Knowing this, I go forward each day with much prayer, both with thanksgiving, that I was able to have this surgery and with humbleness knowing I could stumble and fall, but no matter what, I need to continue on and do this for my health.

3 days post op!

Feb 05, 2009

I came home yesterday and am feeling pretty good.  The first two hours out of recovery were a bit tough, but that was it.  I used the morphene pump for one day, and then a couple of liquid tylenol and that was it.  NO gas pains!  Yippee!  I am sure it had to do with lots of prayers I was receiving.  I was freaked about getting those horrific gas pains.  I am just starting on a full liquid diet and tollerating it well.  Feel a bit weak and want to take a nap.  Incisions do not hurt at all, even with staples in them!  How does that work, I wonder?  The worst pain at the hospital involved those horrific hospital beds.  No sleeping on those beds!  OH My GOODNESS!  Makes one want to come home ASAP!  I will write more later.

Two days and counting...

Jan 30, 2009

Monday is my big day and I am getting so nervous.  AND, I have been reading about so many problems on here lately and it is freaking me out!  I think I will stop reading until AFTER surgery.  Keep me in your prayers.  Thanks all!
