Hi Amanda,My advice to you would be to use this time to learn all you can about the sugery.Having all of the support and knowledge from the Amos members is definately a step in the right direction as they really know their stuff and can help you every step of the way.I see you are from Tennessee,My mother is from Sparta(what a wonderful place to live)Anyhow if I can ever help or if you just need someone to talk to, Please know that I am here.Take care and God bless you always.Your weight-loss sister from the state of Maryland....(HUGS)

hey there amanda ;-) i'm from lenoir city so we're neighbors. i went to my doc first because my insurance requires that i get a referral before i even see a surgeon. the only surgeon that performs wls in knoxville is on suspension for losing 4 out of 7 patients....not good. i am going to dr. john husted in nashville. he's wonderful but of course it's up to the individual. i chose to have DS but he also does RNY. you can go to www.johnhustedmd.com and you can read about him and you can o to www.duodenalswitch.com for a comparison of both surgeries he does. hope that helps ya a bit. email me anytime! there is also a support group i go to in alcoa the 2nd monday of evey month so lemiie know if you would like to do that. blessed be~

Amanda, make your appt with the surgeon now. Most Dr's have a long waiting list just to get in for a consult. Then while your waiting, research good and make your decision on whether or not this surgery is for you. My new consult is October 10th, I made the appt in June. ~~prayers~~

Amanda--meet your new family and support system--the folks at AMOS. We have all been there and know how it is to not be able to do the things you want to do. I'm proud of you for pursuing this now. My kids are teens and I regret missing a lot of things with them. I wanted to ride bikes and canoe, but physically could not. I'm scheduled for surgery in November and looking forward to a new healthy life. Read, read, read and learn all you can! These folks will be there for you! Lori in TN
