Hi everybody. I've never been good at these profile/biographical things, but I'll give it a whirl.
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome when I was 23 years old, after suffering
from the effects of it since the time I hit puberty. I also started having issues with my blood
pressure about that same time.
I never really understood why I put on weight like I did. I am not a sedentary person. I consider
myself to be pretty active. I walk at least 3 times a week, I take karate once a week, i play softball
and tennis. I may not eat the best foods in the world, but I don't just gorge myself. The way the
body works is very confusing to me. It's like my body grabs a calorie and refuses to let it go.
So, anyway, in 2003 I was all set to start the process for gastric bypass. I had all of my pre-op
testing appointments set up. I was well on my way. But, due to company layoffs I lost my insurance
and was unable to proceed.
Now, I'm 30 years old and weight 295 lbs. I still have PCOS and hypertension. i have had some
issues with depression; mainly related to the PCOS and my infertility issues. My husband recently
joined the military and we have decent insurance again so I'm hoping to start the surgery process
again...and this time, see it through to fulfillment.
I don't want to be that girl who dies of a heart attack at 35 years old.
i really think that this is the best course of action.
