Where I am today...

Mar 25, 2007

I have now lost 80 lbs, which is the total weight of the world's largest ball of tape.  Just an interesting fact that I found funny.  I am now just over 6 and 1/2 months post-op.  The surgery was still the best thing I could have done for myself.  I am having some issues with skin mainly on my stomach area.  I saw my doctor and he said some of it will still go away but I will probably not lose all of it.

At my 6 month post-op check up things were going really well.  I had lost a lot of my body fat.  Mainly because I have become obsessed with going to the gym and workign out.  I really enjoy working out which is something I thought would be difficult.  I go to the gym Monday through Friday and use the elliptical machines and some circuit machines.  I have also been tanning because I think it makes me look healthier.  My BMI is now 26.5 which is 1.5 overweight so I am very close to being a normal weight.  My doctor and dietician say that I am at a good weight now but I still would like to lose a few more pounds.  I really like the way I look but would like a little more off my mid section, or as I call it my flat tire.

I am wearing large and extra large clothes which is very exciting for me.  I never thought I would be back in that size again.  It is really fun to go shopping and be able to shop in the regular sizes with my friends now.  I even find it fun when I am buying the same size of clothes as my best friend.

Today was a really great day!  I weighed in at 186 pounds.  Yeah!  I went shopping and bought several new items.  I tried on XL shirts and they acutally fit and I got a L jacket.  When I tried on pants I fit into a 14 and at the Gap I fit in to a pair of 12 jeans.  I had to buy the jeans at Gap becuase they looked really good.  Now if only I could lose more around my mid section.  That is the most difficult spot for me to lose.  Other then that section I am fairly happy with my body for the first time in a really long time.
I have been getting more compliments lately.  There are people also telling me that they would not normally recognize me if I weren't around my friends.  At the mall today I ran into my mom and for a second she did not know who I was when I said hi to her.  That was a major compliment because I see her almost daily.  I just had a really good day and wanted to post an update.  Thanks

Wow what a great Christmas Eve this is.  Today I stepped on the scale and I am now under 200lbs.  On 12/22 I was at 200lbs exactly but today I was at 199.4.  I am so excited about it because it has been a long time since I was under 200 pounds.  I just checked my BMI and I am at 29.4.  What a change since my surgery!
I have noticed how much I have changed since my surgery.  I am more outgoing then I was before the surgery.  I am a very social person but have become more even more social.  I can not wait to see how much more I change for the better.  I would definitely suggest the surgery to anyone that is remotely interested.  This has changed my life temendously and I am so much happier.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Today when I stepped on the scale I weighed 202 pounds.  YEAH!!  That means since surgery I have lost a total of 62 pounds, since starting at Regence Good Sam's Obesity Clinic I have lost 76 pounds, and since October 2005 I have lost a total of 92 pounds.
This has been such a great thing for me.  I have been very lucky with the whole thing so far.  I have not vomitted or had any real complications with the surgery or after the surgery.  I have only "foamed" four times and none of that has been in the last 2 months.  I have tried a lot of different foods and never had any problems with them.  At my last check up my doctor told me that things looked good and that was really good to hear.
Since having the surgery I have a lot more energy and want to do a lot more things.  There are things now that I want to do that I thought I would not be able to do or even want to do.  I have decided to make lists of things I want to accomplish and by when.  I have found myself wanting to be more active and think I would be even more active if I did not have my 3 year old son.  It makes it more difficult to find the time to work out because I work full time, go to school 3/4 time, and have a 3 year old.  I plan on adding lap swim to my work out schedule for three times a week before I go into work.  I can not wait to see how much more I change over the next few months.

Well I had my surgery on September 5th.  I remember I wanted to ask Dr. Hong about recording the surgery but at a little after 12pm on Tuesday the 5th, I just remember waking up and by then it was too late.  I was up walking by 4pm that day.  I walked the hallways of the hospital a lot due to boredom.  The nurses were really nice and would give me a bad time about walking because there were times that I would be up walking around 3-4am.  I was released from the hospital on Thursday morning at 10am.  On Saturday morning I took some pain medication and went shopping in Salem at the mall.  I took pain medication mainly for car rides or for the pain I had when I would get up from sitting down.  After the first week I was no longer taking any pain medication.  My only side effect that I have had is foaming.  If I eat too quickly or do not chew up my food enough then I get chest pain and then I cough up some foam.  Once enough foam has come out then I am back to normal.  This has now happened to me 4 times.  The surgery has given me more confidence and now I enjoy going out more.  I use to be very concerned about what others were thinking of me but I do not feel that as much.  I have lost 45 pounds now since my surgery.  YEAH!  This has helped me a lot already and can not wait to see what is next for me.

Pre Surgery

Nov 12, 2006

I started this whole process after I found out that my insurance would pay for the gastric bypass surgery.  I went through all the steps to see if I would be eligible for my insurance to pay for it.  I was informed by the psychologist that I was biploar so I had to go to a psychiatrist to be cleared for the surgery and the psychiatrist thought it was a crazy diagnosis for me.  I had my sleep study done and got the machine to use to help with my sleep apnea.  I am still not use to that machine yet.  I lost my 5% weight that my insurance requested-which was like 14 pounds.  At the last minute I got really nervous that the insurance would not pay for it especially since I had already met my $1,000 out of pocket cost for the year.  Good Sam's Obesity Institute/Dr. Hong's office sent in all the paperwork to BCBS and within a day of them getting the information on their desk I got the call back saying I was approved.  My surgery was scheduled for August but the Dr. Hong had a family emergency so the next date that the two of us could agree on was September 5, 2006.  That was my surgery date.  The day to start my new life.
