I don't like mean people

Nov 25, 2009

OK, I was on the Lap Band forum and there was a message about some thread on the Main board.  I was astounded at how mean some people can be.  Apparently, some non-banded people do not like the band, and consider themselves smarter or something, because they made the choice to get a different surgery.  There were really unbelievable remarks about it all.  I added my 2 cents and got a couple of ugly emails.  Glad there is a block function.  I just blocked mean people.  I am happy to hear constructive discussions about pros and cons of all the surgeries, but to just tear down one type of surgery when there are thousands of success stories is beyond me.  We are all in the same boat with obesity, and hearing the truth, support, encouragement, and suggestions is what this website is all about.

Wedding anniversary

Nov 15, 2009

OK, I'm almost through the day!  It's my 23rd wedding anniversary, and the end of week 6 since my husband moved out. He checked out mentally about 6 months ago, and checked out physically (with household chores, etc.) about 3 months ago.

It was a better day than I thought.  Watched a soccer game, got a tension headache, took a nap, ate a little, feel better.  Just chillin' now and ready for some R&R.  Tomorrow will be better.

My new restriction is great.  AFter my fill last Monday, I'm really doing well, I think.  Can't eat more than about 1/2 sandwich at a time.  I'm supplementing my protein still until I can get in more dense protein.  My doc doesn't want this, but my dietician says I have to in order to get my protein.  I am trying, and have good meals planned for the week with lots of veggies and dense protein.  I'll be eating like a true Bandster within 2 weeks, I plan.  :)

Difficult week

Nov 11, 2009

OK, it started with my fill on Monday.  Took her a while to get to the port, so I'm still so sore around the site.  Work is unbelievably stressful.  I lost 2 out of 3 people on my team last week, so it's just me and another part-timer doing the job of 4 people.  Then, my oldest daughter gets very sick.  Bad cold and has a weird salivary gland or lymph node infection (the doc doesn't know which one) infection.  The meds are making her feel worse, and the lump under her chin is not getting better.  She has to go in today for an aspiration, and she's in another state (away at college) so I can't be there to help her.  Then, another daughter is having an emotional crisis, not much to do there except lend an ear and shoulder.  My parent's dog was hit by a car and killed yesterday, which made the whole family cry for hours.  The dog was part of the family.  This Sunday is my wedding anniversary, and since my husband left me and the kids 5 weeks ago, I just haven't been able to think of much else.  I've already had one crying session this morning.  Hope that's it.  I hate bringing problems to work, and try not to bring work home, too.  It's difficult.

Calgon, take me away!!!

Got 2nd fill

Nov 09, 2009

OK, my doc almost didn't give me another fill.  She says I'm eating too many slider foods.  I am, but when I eat good Banster foods, I am terrified of getting a blockage.  I've had 2, and they are horrible!  I am commiting myself to eating by the Banster rules as soon as I am back on solids.

I did talk her into a small fill.  I got 0.5 cc, for a total of 5.5 cc in my 10 cc band.  :)

Second fill today

Nov 08, 2009

Excited about my second fill.  I am hoping for a significant one (maybe 0.5cc), I'm feeling less restriction than a few weeks ago.  Hopefully, this fill will be the one for my optimal restriction (or close to it).

I am down 34 lbs total.  SO happy!

Doing better

Oct 27, 2009

OK, I got back on track with eating, and I think I was retaining a lot of water, because I dropped 3 lbs in 1 day.  Must have been the salty ham I ate.  I had a blockage last night, but it was not that bad.  I chewed 3 papaya extract tablets and it corrected itself in about 20 minutes.  Tasted like papaya (yuck) but was better than having all that upchuckiing like the last time.  I had taken 1 bite of ham and not chewed it well enough.  I am taking it easy with solid food for the rest of the week.  My tummy is a little sore.  I didn't actually throw up, just slimed for a while, and finally PB'd.  Gross!!  I really did not like that.

Weight loss stalled

Oct 25, 2009

I am a little concerned.  My weight loss was going great, then it stalled about a week ago.  Today, it actually went up.  I had ham last night for dinner, though.  Might be water retention from the salty food.  I am not feeling the restriction I did a couple of weeks ago, either.  My second fill is coming up...none too soon!

Off the wagon

Oct 19, 2009

I went off the wagon last night...ate 3 sugar cookies with cream cheese icing.  Don't know why...just stressed I guess.  I am back on today, and am going to do what I know is right.  No junk, just healthy food, small bites, protein first, chew a lot.  I feel so much better both physically and emotionally if I eat right.  I will not abandon the principles of the band.

Current: 197  (-30!)

Fill going OK

Oct 13, 2009

My first fill is going fine.  I do feel a slight difference.  I feel the liquid staying in the pouch just a bit longer and I can only drink about 75% of what I could before.  The other 25% has to wait a little while before the stomach accepts it.  I have this "feeling" in the upper abdomen when I am overfull or close to it.  It's like a small dull pain/discomfort.  I think this is exactly the way the band is supposed to work.  Whoo hoo!

Just got first fill

Oct 12, 2009

OK, I just got my first fill an hour ago.  Not bad at all.  The doc explained that the Lap-Band has 4cc of saline injected into it at the surgery.  The Realize Band has nothing.  So, a Lap-Band will have a first fill of 1cc, and a Realize Band will have 3-5cc.  I have the Standard sized Lap-Band, so I got 1cc today, making a total of 5 cc in my band currently (out of a possible 12cc).

Very informative.  And virtually pain-free.  Just a little twinge for a few seconds.  Now 2 days of liquids, then 2 days of mushies, then back to real food!  Whoo hoo.
