Where do I start? I grew up in Massachusetts and I am now living in NC, hence the displaced yankee comment. I am 32 yrs old and after many years of researching and ups and downs in this journey I am finally going to be hitting a surgical unit.
It is March of 2007 as I write this but my story begins at the begining of 2003 when I first chose gastric bypass as my new way of life. The choice for me was not that hard. I grew up obese and was tired of the extra weight, being tired and all the health risks involved. My family has a history of diabetes, obesity, cancer and heart disease. I was not going to face any of that with the weight I was carrying. At least I have a better chance of beating any of those with a lower weight.
In 2003 there was a 18 month waiting list just to meet a surgeon in Massachusetts. That was a bit frustrating to say in the least. However, I moved to NC, that summer and a whole new search began under southern skies. At the time my brother was sick though and my own goals were put on the back burner. Once I was able to get back on my feet and put myself first again there were some obsacles I had to face that had nothing to do with my surgery. I really thought that this past year would be my year but as circumstances had it, I was layed off in the latter part of the year, just days before meeting my surgeon. Faced with no work I had to put the surgery on the back burner yet again.
If He brings it, He will see you through it! I truly believe that all of the little obstacles I have faced in the recent years are bringing me to this very era in my life now. This is my year and HE is going to see me through it. I have my first appt with Duke on April 3rd of 2007. Exactly one month from today. My day has arrived!
