I was scheduled for RNY with Dr. Juarez, but switched to DS with Dr. Simpson. I plan to travel in the third world a lot and the lower diet restrictions of DS (a year after surgery!) are very attractive. There are parts of the world where the ONLY safe food is fried food for example.

Les and I are in the process of sailing around the world. We took seven years to go from Florida to Australia, then came back to Phoenix to save enough to finish the trip.

I learned the hard way that DS patients CAN dump in the first few weeks of surgery (I WAS told, but forgot). I had a meal of regular Jello in the hospital and emptied my entire innards into the bed with no warning. I am really glas that DS patients stop doing this this after a couple of weeks!

3/6/04 - Now weighing in at 236lb which is down 80lb from surgery, feeling GREAT and looking GREAT too! Total weight loss is 160lb! I can now eat SMALL amounts of just about anything I want. I even had a SLICE of pizza recently, pre-op I would have eaten the whole pizza! We are looking forward to Australia again. :-)

Nov 2004 (One year post op!)

We are on the way back to Phoenix for Christmas. I now weigh 91Kg (207 lb!). That is my GOAL!!!

I am looking amd feeling GREAT!

The road has not been without its "bumps", but has been much easier than either remaining heavy or dieting! I am now adding carbs, ice cream and chocolate to my diet to STAY at 200lb - so far it seems to be working about right.

We will be back in Oz by Feb 2005 after a trip around the world by air. This turned out to be within $100 of Bribane-LA-Brisbane fares - go figure! Our trip is Brisbane, Auckland (where I am writing this), Cabo (Mexico), Phoenix, Toronto, London, Bangkok and Brisbane.

We are looking forward to seeing all of our old friends and WLS support people while we are in Phoenix!

The "after" picture here was taken Jan 2005 in Bangkok at theJoe Lois puppet theater.

I am still maintaining my goal weight and having a blast trying (SMALL portions!) of all kinds of exotic foods.

It is SUCH a hardship haivng to eat all these things to keep from losing too much weight :-)

I STILL am not used to ordering small enough portions, but now I know not to eat too much even if we have a huge amount of food left over.

As you can see my main problem now is loose skin (inevitable when losing over half you body weight). We since traveled back to Australia, sailed up the East and Northern Coast to Darwin, through Indonesia and left our boat in Singapore.

We are back in Phoenix dealing with some family problems for now.
