It has now been more than 6 years! I have maintained 220lb and great health! Sadly, one of my buddies (Bob Barnes) died recently. He was 10 years younger than me, but still weighed over 350lb! I am sad to lose him, but am VERY glad that I went to all the trouble of getting the surgery and keeping the weight off!

Now over 3 months post op down 75lb since surgery, 155lb overall, and still doing great! My diet is almost back to normal in that I am eating and drinking just about wahtever I want is SMALL quantities! I can now eat bread, but preer not to. I have had an entire slice of Pizza with no ill effects (pre-op it would hav ebeen an entire 18in pizza!) I still have some problems with very fatty foods and too much sugar, but since I don't like either that is no problem. Still drinknig decaffinated tea/coffee and NO fizzy drinks (beer, colas etc.), but I am enjoying a glass of wine or a martini with my dinner quite often. We even went to a Chiness New Year celebration complete with a 10 course dinner and was the only one who left the table wihtou overeating - I had SOME of everything, but not too much. The only serious modification to my diet is three protein drinks every day to keep the protein levels up. I have even inspired almost all of my coworkers to diet since they are now heavier than I am! I never expected to be the "poster child" of wieght loss and healthy eating! We are gettingready to retire (for the second time) and resume our around the world cruise in Australia on March 30 - this time with much better diet and lots of exercise.

Now 7 weeks "post-op", down 66lb (home scale) and feeling GREAT! I felt my ribs for the fist time in decades yesterday and have bones sticking out all over! I am also feeling the "cold" (60 degrees here in Arizona!) even though I know its due to losing all thta insulation I still need to dress warmly or I get "chilled to the bone". Too bad I din't do this last March so I could be cold all summer :-) Diet is still a LOT of experimentation, but I can sample just about everything that does not have a lot of fat or sugar. Having a great time with cheeses though: Limberger, Stilton, and Romano to name only a few. Excersise is still a struggle, but I did get in a half hour bike ride yeasterday. May YOUR experience be as good!

WOW!!! Surgery plus 9 days, down 26lb already! I have been on a “soft protein diet” since last Thursday morning and achieved 80g protein yesterday. No surgical pain since 2 days after the surgery. The only “problem” is the stitches/staples itch sometimes and I sure don't want to catch one on something! Overall my recovery is simple phenomenal – as fast as many 20 year olds and I am almost 60! My spelling is even back to normal :-) Tomorrow I get the stitches/staples out and then I get to focus on getting the diet and exercise right.

Mike, Congratulations! I was in the same seminar as you and I remember about your upcoming trip. Keep the faith, follow the plan and may we see less of you every day! (In the good sense).

HOME AGAIN HOME AGAIN!! My doctore was great, the hospital staff was great and the support from the community was simply overwhelhimg! My angel was simply awesome! Juts the same it is great to be home again! I arrived home tired but happy Friday aorunf 4PM after an hour's drive from Maryvale and have slept almost all the time since. Everyone harps on it, but walking after surgery makes a work of difference, I walked as far as the door to my room at 6pm the day of surgery, then got up and took two more steps a couple of hours later. I had some well controlled pain at first, but went totally off all pain medication Thursday and since them have wanted NONE! Just the same we DO have the pills Dr. Simpson prescribed :-) I started solid food THursday moring and I am still awed by being so full with such a tinyamount of food, I still get a little panic when I maesure out how much I should need, but I have only felt that I could taken an extra couple of bites once. Truly eating less and enjoying it more! Let the LOSING being! Mike
