Slowed Down

Aug 03, 2008

Well, my weight loss slowed way down the last couple of weeks.  I guess that's to be expected considering the rate I was maintaining.  Anyway, I'm down 43 pounds now.  I've been really busy with getting my classroom back in order for the new year and my mom's wedding yesterday.  Now that her wedding is over, I'll be focusing this last week of vacation on getting the last of my classroom to do's done.

I go back to work officially 1 week from tomorrow.  I figure I'll get through the first week back with students done and then I'll start my gym game plan with my sister-in-law the following week.  We have decided to start taking a cycling class a couple of mornings a week before I go to work.

Sunday Check-In

Jul 20, 2008

OK...so I am a creature of habit.  When I am able to, I love consistency and routine.  So, even though I just updated, I am updating again since it is Sunday.  As of this morning, I was down 38 pounds but tonight I am now down 39 pounds!  YEAH!  I hope everyone is feeling great and seeing success!

1 Month Anniversary

Jul 18, 2008

Today marks one month for me and I feel great!  I am so excited to see how well my body is handling the change.  I am able to eat solid foods and as long as I make sure to take my time, I am successful.

I spent the better part of the month camping.  Initially, we camped at the beach for close to a week.  This trip was while I was still on soft foods, which made it difficult with the normal dinner BBQ's.

As soon as we got home from the beach, we turned around the next day and headed to the high sierras for a week.  I came down to Fresno the second day into the trip for my 3 week doctor's appointment.  That's when I was released on solid foods.  I was actually told to eat more and I would lose even more...go figure!  Needless to say, I was elated to eat real food and loved eating BBQ chicken again.

Today, I went for a fitting for a wedding I am in, in a couple of weeks.  When they ordered my dress, they said I fit in a 24 at the time.  I told them I was having gastric bypass and would be down 20-40 pounds.  They decided ordering a 20 would be wise then.  Well, when I went today the 20 was way too big!!!   I actually traded dresses with one of the other girls since her 18 was too snug on her.  And as if I wasn't excited enough, they still have to take in the 18 to fit.  YES!!!  Needless to say...this was one of those days where I walked on air and my decision to take this journey was totally validated.

Once a Week Weigh In

Jun 30, 2008

I didn't get a chance to update yesterday, so I'm getting to it today.  As of yesterday, I have lost 22 pounds!   I can eat mashed potatoes, sugar free pudding, and refried beans without problems.  I tried grits and had major problems.
I went to a wedding and luckily they served cubed potatoes, that I squished into mashed potatoes.  Those also went down well.  My husband enjoyed eating the rest of my plate, too.
My family has a houseboat on a nearby lake and we went up there on Sunday.  I tried to squish potato salad and eat it.  It went down with a little discomfort.  I definitely discovered that I didn't drink enough water though.  Not to mention, it zapped my energy.  I have been dragging all day today.
Anyway, we are headed to Pismo Beach later this week for the 4th of July.  It ought to be interesting to be camping and still be able to eat soft foods only...no BBQ.

1st Post Op Appointment

Jun 26, 2008

Today was my first post-op appointment.  I am officially 18 pounds healthier!  And...hooray...I got to eat mashed potatoes today.  I must say that I never knew how very satisfying mashed potatoes could be.  They were delicious and stayed down without any trouble!

Yeah! The scale is moving...

Jun 22, 2008

As I had decided before surgery, my weekly weigh in day is Sunday.  I got on the scale this morning and saw progress.  I have lost 11.5 pounds since the day before my surgery.  It is so exciting to see, not to mention it helps aide in the absolutely NO cheating concept.
I had asked my husband to hide the scale so I wouldn't get carried away checking my weight all the time.  He hid it under the bed and knocked it while I was folding laundry.  But, hey, at least he tried.  He has really been very supportive and helpful during this process.  He doesn't have a weight problem, nor has he ever had a weight problem, so he has a hard time understanding how difficult it really can be.  So, for him to be so helpful and supportive has really been fabulous!

I'm Home!

Jun 20, 2008

I made it home yesterday in the early evening.  I will say that I am glad I had read so much as to what to expect because it pretty much fit the bill.  The night of the surgery was awful and I really questioned what I had done and if I had just made a huge mistake.  I spent the better part of the first night dry-heaving and pretty much miserable.
Yesterday and today have been much better.  I am more uncomfortable than I would say in pain.  My husband and I walked down the street this morning before it got too hot and we are planning on walking again this evening after the sun has gone down.
Thanks for your prayers and keeping me in your thoughts.  I'm going to go take a nap now.

Yikes...my big day is tomorrow!

Jun 17, 2008

Well, my time is almost here!  I will be having surgery tomorrow in Fresno and I am scared to death, not to mention STARVING.  To help me track my progress, I took my measurements and weight on my home scale.  My plan is to weigh every Sunday and take my measurements once a month.  We'll see how that goes once life gets back to normal.  Anyway, here are my measurements as of this morning:

Weight: 247.5 pounds
Breast: 46 inches
Tummy: 50 inches
Booty: 50 inches
Thighs: 47 inches

Preop was today!

Jun 13, 2008

My husband, son, daughter, and I spent the last week visiting Legoland, Disneyland, and California Adventure for vacation this year.  We had a ball and of course, I gained a few pounds on the trip.  We left the resort this morning so I would be on time to my preop appointment in Fresno this afternoon.  We came home long enough to drop off our kids at my in-laws' house and unload a couple of suitcases and headed off to Fresno.

Dr. Boone commented that I gained a couple of pounds, which was no surprise to me considering I ate poorly on our trip.  He cautioned me to stay clear of any sick people so I don't get sick and have to delay surgery.  Other than that, he gave me my prescriptions so I can get them ahead of time and went over the final details of what to expect.

After my appointment with Dr. Boone, my husband and I headed over to Fresno Heart Hospital for my preop appointment there.  It really is a nice hospital.  The staff was all very friendly and the facility was well kept, even though it is under construction.  They took blood and I met with the respitory therapist to go over what to expect in that area after the surgery.  My nurse said she'll call me Monday or Tuesday to finish going over a few more things and then I was on my way.

The jitters have definitely kicked into high gear, but I am also really excited.  My husband and I went for a walk in the mall this evening and it was really exciting to look in the displays and think that pretty soon I'll actually get to wear some of those outfits and they might actually look good!

I've got a date!

May 20, 2008

ALSA called today!  My surgery is scheduled for June 18th at the Fresno Heart Hospital.  I have heard nothing but fabulous things about this hospital.  I am just so excited to be getting a second chance in life.

I told my husband I would cut myself off from soda as soon as I got a date, so I guess my soda days have officially come to an end.  This will be one of the biggest challenges for me, but I'll make it.
