My VSG surgery date is Tuesday, the 24th. I wavered for several years, not comfortable with the information I was getting. I didn't feel that it was a path I could follow for several reasons. Then in January, I decided to once again explore the possibility. In that meeting, I learned about the sleeve as an alternative for some people. As it turns out, that is the only proceedure that I would be able to have due to my need to take anti-inflamatory medications for my arthritis. As I researched on line, talked to several that had the sleeve, and talked more to my doctor, I felt it was something I wanted to follow. This seems a much better fit for me. I had struggled more and more with my mobility, and having more trouble with my knees. I can't have knee replacement until I loose 100 or more pounds. So all the reasons and things I learned made sense for me. I look at it as a path and tool I must use so that I can live a better life in my years ahead, with my husband, kids and grandkids. It's my time to do this. I hope you find your answer as you made this journey.

It's time to make my decision. . . .

I am meeting with my doctor this week to discuss the gastric bypass, and start the process. I've struggled for many years with my weight, and have now know that I can't do it on my own, as it certainly hasn't worked in the past. Over the last seven years or so I've attended various bariatric seminars, attended a few support meetings, listened to some women in my community, and read online. I've never been able to commit to the surgery, always too afraid to make that decision, afraid of what I'd be giving up. Always thinking that I could do what I needed to do. Not so.
I'm now 60 years old, and have reached the point where my mobility is really affected. I need to lose at least 150 pounds. My knees are shot, with no cartiledge left. Knee replacement, in both knees eventually, but the orthopedic doctor said he wouldn't do it until I lost at least 100 pounds. I just need to take the next steps toward the full committment to my surgery.
I need encouragement from those in similar situations as I make these next decisions.
