DEAR MEMBER,
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPOTUNITY TO ASSIST YOU WITH YOU RECENT INQUIRY REGARDING ELIGIIBILITY OF BENEFFITS FOR GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY.
WE CAREFULLY CONCIDERED YOUR REQUEST BUT FOUND THAT GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY WOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE UNDER YOUR HEALTH CARE PLAN BECAUSE: Given that the objective of a non-surgical program is to have energy intake be LESS than energy expenditure, the outcome would include weight loss approaching 10% over 6 months. The member has appeared to GAIN weight. We regret that our reply could not be more favorable. If you have additional documentation that would further support your request, please submit it to the address shown below.

My Name is Laurie, I suffer from Necrobiosis Lipoidica Non Diabectrom.
Dr. Oppenheimer founded NLD classified as Oppenheimer Disease.
Over the Past 19 Years I have tried many programs, starting with Punch
Biopsy, to scraping for a correct diagnosis.
First diagnosed in 1986 as Granuloma Annulare Secondary diagnosis
Vasculitis, Through Dermatology. In 1987 I walked into a New Doctor
who had never heard of this disease I presented to him. He shook his
head and decided to repunch the plaqued area in 3 places to send to 3
private labs. 2 out of 3 came back with Necrobiosis lipoidica
diabectorum. Thus named NLD, Non Diabetic. Blood Glucose levels A1c
run 5.2 Still no answers just a shake of the head and a promise of
nothing.
For 10 years I suffered the changes of NLD, the itching, burning,
ulcerations, and infections. I came in from a road trip ulcerated and
in extreme pain in 1997, I walked into a NEW Doctor who knew nothing
of the disease but was willing to learn. I had printed off 45 pages of
explaination of NLD to my Doctor and the healing began.
No more Trials, no more I don't knows. Just flat out honesty.
Injections were started for wound care, and the years flew by, ulcer
after ulcer showing itself then the final blow to my NLD Came when I
bumped my leg, an underskin lesion full of Necrotising faciatis
appeared, spreading and causing great deals of problems. I was sent to
a Vascular surgeon who performed a linton proceedure and cured the ill.
There are thousands of NLD Patients, Some non diabetic Others
Diabetic. Metabolic syndrome and Vascular disease go hand in hand.
Over the past couple of years I have joined a group on Yahoo called
NLDLIST, there you will find people who have been suffering through
their fight with this disease.
No research has been funded for the rising need of education and research.
Research would allow a multitude of New treatments and possible cures.
You may never run across another patient with NLD in your careers, but
we are out there, There are patients with Spots on their legs, trunks,
face, limbs, and even in the cornea causing blindness.
If you find a patient with NLD consider the options, what is available
now, vs. What could be available in the future.
Research patients are plentiful, I know of at least 30 who would be
willing to try anything to help them stop their pain and torment. The
ages vary from 12 to 75.
If there are 1000 people just in a few states, wouldn't you say that
the case load is growing?
Anyone can present with NLD, Kenalog Interlesional helps to heal, but
it breaks down the skin causing thinning of the tissue which can lead
to new ulcerations.
The regimine I have been on over the past couple of years helps to a
degree, but still the patches grow and ulcers though few and far
between happen quite often.
The scaring left by the ulcers have been shown to cause Squamous cell
carcinoma, Squamous cells are found in all skin, but time after time
after time of the cells being interuppted, carcinoma forms.
If we can't find a cure for NLD, then we need to find a way to stop
the cancer.
25% of all NLD patients will present in the future with Cancer,
Squamous cell carcinoma a very agressive cancer that may require
amputation of the limb.
If no help is given I myself will lose my left leg due to the growing
number of cells.
Look at yourself and ask "What would I do"
Thank you and if there are any questions?
Good night
If you have anything to add, tell me your story, I will tell it too.
Anything to add, Let me know.
Thanks
Laurie

HERE IS WHAT MY LEG SORES ARE EXACTLY.....

NLD usually occurs more often in people with diabetes, in people with a family history of diabetes or a tendency to get diabetes. Still, the exact cause of NLD in not known. A similar condition that is often confused with NLD is granuloma annulare. Similar to the association of NLD and diabetes, it appears that a high percentage of persons with disseminated granuloma annulare have diabetes mellitus. The individual spots typically consist of a circular array of reddish to brown and slightly translucent bumps.

Treatment of NLD is difficult. Sometimes it responds to topical cortisone creams, especially if covered ("occluded") with an airtight dressing. Cortisone injections can also be used to treat NLD. These are more effective than cortisone creams. NLD usually goes through stages of activity and inactivity. One is not able to predict when the condition will flare. Ultraviolet light treatment has been found to control this condition when it is flaring. A baby aspirin each day, and other medications that thin the blood, such as Trental, may help NLD. Other medications, including prednisone pills (steroids) are used in difficult or severe cases
Sleep Study, done!!

What a weird test. I had all those wires, and goop in my hair, and 2 guys watching me on video sleeping..hmmm..I hate when David watches me, and this was WAY weird, lol.. Well, It took me forever to get to sleep, I arrived at 10 pm, and was in bed and lights out by 11pm, no T.V., not allowed my cell phone, just alone in the dark with a camera, and a machine and a box of wires I was connected to, so I was only to move in two positions, slightly over to the left and on my back. My legs moved alot, and the tach had to keep coming into the suite to check the wires. The last time, he came in my room, he was trying to be respectful of my eyes, but he misjudged where the high corner of the bed was, and he hit his nuts, and he belowed out a cry, and I could not help it, but I laughed. I told him I am sorry. And to turn the light on the next time. Then I went to sleep, and they woke my up at 6 am, I felt like I felt that I had rested, but as I came home, I was so tired, I relized I was just anxios to get the hell outta there. So I took a hot bath, and took some dawn soap (thank you Pattye!!), got the goop outta my hair, and went to bed. Sleep for a coulble of hrs, and now I am up and fine. They had me fill out a post sleep survery, and I ask them how did I do, they said they have 800 pages to analize, WOW!! I can not want to get the report back. I really want to know.
OK, I am feeling BETTER!!!
Sep 04, 2007

I am feeling much beeter today!!! I had to go get my money back from my PA-C who tried to take total advantage of me when I was sick, and have me take a salive test, that cost 500 bucks, when I crossed refferenced wiht my GYN, he said that nothing is better then blood and urine, so I took back my money, after 2 1/2 hrs, and alot of shoving , verbally, and she tried to tell me my GYN, who is a DR. knew nothing, and tryied to sell me on the idea that she had me best interest, LOL...Needless to say, I got my money back.. OMG, Message of the day, BUYER BEWARE. Remeber Dr.'s and PA-C, and all are sales people. Probably worse then Car salesmen, because our health depends on it. Now THAT is scary...
OK, So all is not well in my world..BUT.. I keep smiling!!
