My story begins as a child with gaining weight probably around the first grade. My brothers always picked on me and I thought I was at pretty much my whole life. Looking back at pictures, I was not as big as I thought, but over the years have always been too heavy. My first date with weight loss was in junior high school when my mother and I attended Weight Watchers, it worked but I did regain and only to try pretty much everything over the next many years. I have had success with Weight watchers, low fat diets, exercise programs and the best I did was with the Atkins diet almost 10 years go now! I swore I would not let my weight creep back up over 200 pounds, but it did.
I am now waiting to see if my insurance will approve RNY. I have been modifying eating and cooking habits at home, exercising and slowly dropping some weight. I have completed my psych eval and get the results next week which is the last step for insurance submission. I am looking forward to restarting my life and gaining control!
I am married and have a great 3 year old son. My motivation is keeping up with this busy little man! I work long shifts as a nurse and am feeling the effects of carrying too much weight. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my foot and ankle and was devistated! I made it through a stress fracture and am now exercising within my limits to see some result and am feeling better. I initially consulted with Dr. Chlysta in 6/07. I was following up with my primary MD and weighing in. I did that for 4 months and missed weigh-in #5 (for overeating reasons) and had to restart. The insurance company (Medical Mutual of Ohio) apparently requires 6 months continous attempts at weight loss! I was looking for the lap-band because it is less invasive and quicker recovery time. Dr. Chlysta introduced the concept of RNY but I was not ready to hear that a year ago. I have talked with several RNY patients in that time and attending an informational seminar and that was my eye opener! There were about 15-20 previous patients and they talked openly and honestly about their experiences since the surgery. Another real motivator for me was Dr. Chlysta's secretary, a previous patient, Kelly. She calls me back with any questions i have and helped scheduling/coordinating appointments. I am hoping to have my precedure (yeterday) seriously within the next couple months and think this site will be a great support along the way!
