1 year post-op
Sep 18, 2009
Well, I made it a year from surgery! Yesterday was my 1 year surgiversary and I am down 96 pounds and at goal weight!!! Sometimes I feel like a champ ohers I feel like I should be able to do a million more things than I already do! I signed up for a 5K on Sept 27 and look forward to that challenge! I think I have the protein thing down, I meet with the surgery team next week and will review diet records, labs and a weigh-in. I find I have to supplement still, bit try to get most of my protein from real foods. My famil has been very supportive and try to help keep some of the temptations away! Luckily, we live by some farms and fresh local produce is really a treat to me. I still journal, it really helps me keep track of water and protein (my main focuses). When I try to tighten things up I also track fat and calories. Really good if I slip and start munching! I have been able to catch that nasty habit a couple times and quickly get rid of it again! Some habits are very hard to break!! Only rough times this year were a kidney stone and some labs being off, luckily being closely followed by my surgeon and should be better at the next check (I hope). Thank goodness for thiswebsite for those late night issues that arise and also keep me inspired. I don't know where I would be without Shelly (Eggface) and her wonderful recipes for keeping me on track!!! Protein ice cream....where would I be without that?!?!

Goal weight?!?!
Jul 21, 2009
Well, as of yesterday I hit the "goal" given to me fom my surgeon. My personal goal is another 2 pounds. some days I feel great, others I feel like I am just starting on my journey! I did go buy a few outfits that actually fit, that really makes a difference. I also had a wow moment today, I went to my spinning class (which I really enjoy) and my sweat shorts with the tie waist almost got lost during the workout! I actually had to tie the silly things as tight as I could! not to mention that i am again in need of a a shopping trip for some new underwear again! Amazing how thosethings fit fine one day an the next they are falling off too! These are all good things, just seem to happen at the most inconvenient times!! I am heading off to a support group meeting tonight, looking forward to seeing the gang. I also signed up to participate in a relay team for a local marathon coming up- something I never even thought of before surgery! I will get details tonight so I can start my training. Another great moment this week-I decided to check my blood pressure at the local drug store and saw 118/76 I can't even remember that number!!! I look back 10 months and can not believe the changes that have occurred!!! I definitely made the right decision and plan on working at this the rest of lfe!!

6 months out
Mar 26, 2009
Well, I have been out for 6 months! Last weeks check up was good, I am at 77% excess weight loss. Labs pretty good, PTH is pretty high, I am trying prescription Vitamin D and extra calcium to see if that changes things around. Lab recheck in 3 months. None of my old clothes fit, have been picking up a few things here and there. Someone at work gave me some old scrubs so I am set for a while. I have been exercising regularly and happy with that. I am in a it of a funk...not sure why. i can't see the changes, my hubby showed me a preop picture and I couldn't tell if it was pre or post op. Anyone with inspiration/suggestions on improving body image, please let me know!

3 months out
Dec 30, 2008
I had my 3 month follow up a couple weeks ago. Some very reassuring news, I was down almost 50 pounds (now 52) which was 51% of goal! I am doing very well, the body fat analysis was great, I was at 33% body fat (goal 30 or less!!) Somedays I can't believe what I fit into, others I feel just like the old me. I talked with the psych last visit about that and am looking into some body image issues, apparently quite common in post-op patients. feeling, good and still exercising. My goal is to slowly add some weight training to help speed my metablism. Weight is definitely coming off slower now so I try not to weigh in too often. The last 2 days at work were actually rough and I wanted to snack!! I held off and ate sensibly but was upset that I felt so hungry, so I had a good hour conversation with myself about head hunger versus physical hunger and figured that it coule be a physical thing when almost any healthy snack sounded like a good option! I had a snack and then went for a walk and was fine the rest of the evening! Tonight is the last event planned where there will be excessive eating, so I am going with some healthy options and an emergency proein shake or bar if needed! The holiday sereprety smooth, Christmas was tough because of what was supposed to be available versus wht was really available. I did not take a back-up (first time) since I had felt safe every other even there so now I will always have another option there too! I did take a salad and some cheese, but was not planning on that being my holiday meal. Well, hope everyone as a great New Year and talk to you soon!!!!

2 months out (late entry!)
Nov 30, 2008
Well, I hit onederland a few weeks ago! It felt great, now it seems the scale is slowing down. I try not to weigh more than a couple times a week so I don't get discouraged. I also measure from time to time. I think that was a very valuable thing I read pre-op was to take measurements. Sometimes I'll just check one or two spots to boost my spirits for the day. I am surprised at how fast I seem to be going through sizes, especially work clothes! Luckily, I don't have to dress up for work! I made it through the first holiday rather well! I ate a little turkey, boiled potatoes and salad. I have to say I prefer my own cooking at this time! I did feel a littel "food screwed" that night when my family had a meal/snack of hot dogs! (of all things I could eat, I wanted a stupid hot dog!!) I didn't dare try a regular one, I had found lite turkey ones while watching what I was eating pre-op that I liked. I took one bite and it was disgusting!! So I then made pumpkin protein shake and was very satisfied! Other than that, I things are going well, slowly advancing my diet and exercising regularly! 3 month check up this month includes a body analysis, will be interesting to see the difference from pre-op to now!
1 month out!
Oct 17, 2008
I have made it to the 1 month mark! According to my home scale, I am down 22 punds, which is almost 25% of my goal to lose. I had to convert it to a percent so I feel like I am making progress!! A few issues with constipation/diarrhea but things seem to be working fine right now! I am tolerating foods well, if anything I really keep track of what I am eating and drinking because it is still hard for me to get enough protein. Vitamins have been no problem, I actually really like the multi! (using celebrate vitamins). My clothes are definitely looser, I have pulled out some smaller sizes and think I will just use what I have until the smaller ones fit. I did try on a size 16 dress I had worn years ago since I have a wedding I will be attending in a couple weeks and it fits fine! I think it will look great in 2 weeks or even a little roomie! Still get tired during the day but trying to rearrange my protein shakes to make sure I get enough energy! Still sounds funny to me that somedays I really try to eat and consume some calories so I feel good and can function!
HOME!
Sep 19, 2008
Well, I had my surgery (RNY) on Wednesday 9/17!! I got to come home last evening. I am actually up and moving around, sipping on water all day, it is my best friend right now! Pain is no where near what I was expecting, more sore and tight from time to time, walking seems to help quite a bit. Also very happy to not have any nausea right now! I will gladly deal with pain over nausea any day! I am attempting some small (very small) full liquids with some protein and starting up the vitamin today.
Night before surgery
Sep 16, 2008
Well, this is it! Tomorrow is the big day. I think I am ready, I am starting to get a little nervous, more excited still than anything. This is the tool I need to succeed!
I got my date!!
Aug 13, 2008
Well, I am a step closer, I got my date for September 17, 2008! A little further out than I wanted, but everywhere I look, it is perfect timing. Timing works well with work for my FMLA. Home...we are going back to eating healthier, I was doing great, then got a little laxed. I am still down 21 pounds over the last several months (steady and slow). The goal is to get back into better cooking and eating habits now. I am also going to cook extra and start freezing meals for the post op period. Anyone else do the cooking and shopping for the family? I am trying to make this easier on them as I plan to do no cooking for at least 2 weeks post op because I don't even want to be near food. I know what supplements I want and am slowly stocking up on a few. Also trying a protein sampler pack so I can see what I like post op and order more from there.
Approved!!

I just got a call a few hours ago saying I have been approved through my insurance company! That was great news. I was denied about 2 weeks ago and a appeal was filed by my surgeon's office that day. I have my pe-op appts scheduled and foolowup with mysurgeon in about 3 wks. I can't wait to start over!!!!
