I am 51 yrs old. I have a wonderful wife and daughter who will be 20 years old in just 10 days. I have a great job and work with great people. I have always beed overweight even as a child. I've always tried different diets and different fads but nothing has ever worked or felt "right". I have many comorbid conditions, diabetesm high blood pressure, sleep apnea etc... Last year I talked with my PCP about gastric bypass and I guess I wasn't ready at the time. At least I didn't really think to persue the whole idea of WLS.
Finally, this year, I woke up to where I was and didn't like it. Specifically, I didn't like tio listen to the news about how overweight we are becoming as Americans, especiially knowing I was part of the problem. Then I started to hear about WLS and all of the success stories that people have. I know that WLS isn't the "easy" way out. That isn;t why I am doing it. I am committed to having this surgery to save and prolong my life.
I have gone through the process of getting prepared for the surgery. My surgeon has submitted by letters to United HealthCare (about 2 weeks ago).
Because I have an abdominal hernia, I already know that my surgery will be an Open RNY. Right now I am just waiting for the approval...
