Jay Jan Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

Dr. Jan is a very competent medical doctor and surgeon. He seems very nice and professional. However, he did seem a little cut-and-dry and pressed for time. He did answer all (and I had a lot of them!) of my questions at the consult appointment. rnrnI have mixed feelings about the staff at Dr. Jan's office. The people seem pretty nice, but they aren't really good about getting back to you in a timely manner. It took 1-3 days to get a return call. Then, I was suppose to be sent a packet of information to complete prior to my consult and I never recieved it. So, the consult was pushed back about 30 minutes so I could fill it out there. That was a little more than frustrating! rnrnOn a positive note, I think the staff at the Legacy Obesity Institute (the office next door to Dr. Jan where I had all my pre-op requirements completed for surgery) were 100% better....Jennifer especially. She was great about getting back to me timely and arranging my appointments close together so I wouldn't have to take any unnecessary trips to Portland. (I live 1.5 hours away). All the staff at the LOI were courteous and helpful and Robin is extremely knowledgable about the process for insurance approval.

At first Dr. Jan seemed dislocated, but after he got through with his questions he opened up and we talked about the procedure and what i was expecting. The morning of the surgery Dr. jan came by and we talked some and he eased any concerns I had. His staff is great to deal with. There is nothing I dislike about Dr. Jan. He was in to see me reagularly even on his day off he stopped in to check in on me. The whole program with Dr. Jan is great. I would rate him as a very highly skilled doctor and one not to fear.rnDr. Jan has both great surgical competence and bedside manner. He's a great guy.

I absolutely loved the care I received from Dr. Jan. He was always there and concerned about what was going on and how I was doing. I am a bit of an exception on the standards as I live in Alaska and can only make it to Oregon maybe twice a year. But he is available and answers my questions and makes sure that I am understanding everything I need to do in order to utilize the tool he has provided me.
Thanks to Dr. Jan and all the staff that keep him going!

I felt comfortable with Dr. Jan, he's quiet, talks very fast, but I feel like he does listen to me. The more I see him, the better I like him, the more trust I have in him. rn His staff is polite and competent. The one thing I like least about Dr. Jan is that he tends to move quickly, however, when I asked him to slow down, he did. My first fill was a little rough because he was moving so quickly, I think he forgot he was working on a very AWAKE patient, not one under anesthesia. :) My second fill wen much better when he slowed down.rn He is brief with his reminders of how to eat, but he knows I'm getting most of my information from email and internet groups, so he may be more thorough with someone who isn't as informed.rn Aftercare, to me, means getting the fills. He understands that the fills are what makes the band work. He has been very supportive with me, to give me a fill when I want it, not solely based on a strict follow up program. There is a laid-out schedule for fills, and I generally am following that, but he is great about putting my needs in front of some schedule. rn He answered all my questions well about both the bypass and the band, and was willing to do either. He had me watch the Inamed video. rn I would rate him a 9. rn Both surgical competence and beside manner are important to me and he is good at both.

Dr. Jan is a nice doctor and he listened to my concerns about surgery. I was really nervous on my surgery day but after meeting with him in the morning I felt very relaxed and felt like I was in good hands. The surgery went well and when I saw him the next morning he basically let me decide when I wanted to leave the hospital and let me make the decisions on what I wanted to do according to how I was feeling. Great surgeon!!

Jan Jan is a terrific doctor. He answered all my questons to my satisfaction. He was awesome in the hospital and took time to listen to my concerns/feelings. I would recommend Dr. Jan to anyone wishing to have WLS. I initially choose him because he could get me into surgery the soonest, but I did not regret that decision. He was a great choice.

I really like Dr. Jan. He is matter-of-fact, efficient, supportive and kind. I was not sure at first, because he looks so young, but he is a very proficient doctor. He paid attention to details and made sure that I was ready on the day of the surgery. He also talked to my husband right away when the surgery was complete. Good Samaritan has a very specific aftercare program, with Dr. Jan making it very clear he is avaiable if I have any concerns or questions.

Dr. Jan is great. He is quiet and kind as I got to know him he became less quiet and he answer's anything you ask him with honesty.
The office staff are nice and actually get back to you pretty quick. He has a 20 year structured aftercare program. Bedside manner and competence is very important to me. Dr. Jan has both.

I chose DR. Jay Jan based on little information. They say that your first impression of someone is in the first three minutes of meeting them. I can tell you he is a very kind man. Understanding of your needs and concerns. He explained the procedure from walking into the front door through surgery, recovery and what is expected of me at home. He discussed followups and the importance of staying in contact with him on any concerns that I may have through this process.
