Barix Clinics - Michigan Hospital

My first impression of Dr. Poplawski he was rather cold in personitly. He I thought had a rather dry sense of humor. He definely didn't push the surgery. Had my mind not been already made up he could have easily discourage me. One thing I did not like I waited for 6 months to be approved by my Insurance company. When I finally got approved I was ready to get the surgery date. But instead I was told I had to be clear by a cardolist. I think we should have had that already done. But now I have to wait on this appointment. This whole ordeal teaches patients. But I only talked to Dr. Poplawski for about 1 hour. I will let you know after the surgery is over my impression of him as a Doctor. I have read many good things about the Doctor as a surgeon.
My surgery is over today is Nov 30 and I wanted to let everybody know what I thought about Dr. Poplawski. I really really like him he was every kind to me he is very considerate I would recommend him to anybody looking for a Dr.

He was very kind and professional. He made me feel at ease with this type of procedure. He was concerned for my health and wanted to make sure that this is what I wanted to do and that I knew what I was getting into. I've only had the initial consultation with him so far but look forward to going through the process with him.
Well I had my surgery on 10/12/04 and when I saw the doctor he was very nice and he was so calm. He seemed as though this was no big deal and like he could do the surgery with his eyes closed. He was great and I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
Thanks Dr. Pop!!!

Dr. Poplawski, Steven C. is in Ypsilanti, MI
Pop was the one that did my first surgery that had to be aborted. I was turned down at my local hospital as they are just general sergeons and can't do mine and I'm glad that it happened.
I feel so safe with Dr. Poplawski doing the surgery and I really like him too. He's a very quiet and kind man but I'm sure if I got on his wrong side it would be differnt.
My daughter went down with me and took a tablet so she could ask questions and Dr. Poplawski had covered everything for her so that she didn't have to ask anything. My daughter was very impressed with him and felt very safe that he was going to be doing my surgery. The staff was super and we had a good time during the questions too. I really felt like they really cared.
Dr. Poplawski has a very good after care program and I have the utmost respect for him and he worked it out so that I could get back into his office sooner as he told his nurse "we have to get Sharon back in here very soon" Dr. Poplawski is very strong on aftercare program.
He tells everyone that the surgery isn't like
havine a tooth pulled or something like that as people have died from having it but checking with his staff before I know that he hasn't had anyone die and this is all that he does do now but he use to do liver transplants.
Both of his surgical competence and bedside manner it great! He did tell me the first time I went down for surgery that if the nurses couldn't get me out of bed that he would have to come down there and I really wouldn't want him to do that. There wasn't any problems with that.
The first surgery had to be aborted as my gulbladder was so bad that I had gulstones the size of robin's eggs and my bileduck was the size of a quarter instead of a pencil.
I had lots of pieces of stones and it wasn't safe to go on.
I went to U of M after he found a doctor that would do the surgery on me and I had less than 5 percent of bile leaking and it did so I ended up back in my local hospital for a week with pancrantitus and then a week later back in with a sist on my pancrantitus.
I was out for 4 days and back in for 33 days as they had to wait to get the drainage lowered and I got staff infection plus my sist got as big as a grapefruit.
I had enough of seeing doctors and nurses but I'm ready to go again but with my former doctor as I trust him with my life.
Enough said on the last year. Poplawski is going to the surgery and fix my hernia along with the scar tissue; he is allowing 2 slots as I will take more time than normal.
This time I want to be welcomed over to the otherside for real!
Dr. Poplawski wants me to have a heart test just to make sure that everything is good and I know that it is.
The last time I was in the nurses were so use to people having the surgery that they were treating me like I had it and it really hurt because I had the insession that they all did and 1 more tube than everyone else but not the surgery and I even got a letter welcoming me over to the otherside. Dr. Poplawski gave me a number so that I could complain as no one should have that happen to them. (that's the negative I got about my experience.
This time it will be better I now it will as the President of the WLC called me after they heard the other things.
See you on the otherside. I'll let everyone know when my date is.

Dr Brian Lane is going to be leaving Barix Center (BTC) in July. He is completely full with surgeries. They told me that I will be having Dr Poplawski preform the LAP-RNY. I met Dr. Poplawski at my pre-admission testing date. He was very straight forward and he maintained eye contact. I respected his judgement when he told me I couldn't have a lap due to my liver being so enlarged. I was alright with doing it open. His post op care is awsome, he's very caring and great at what he does. Thanks Dr. Pap!
