My first visit with Dr. Suggs set any fears to rest. He answered all my questions and was very easy to understand. He and his staff was always available and concerned every step of the process of being approved and now after my surgery. I like how much knowledge Dr. Suggs and his staff has about the pros and cons of everything. I was told all the risk with the gastric sleeve. I went into surgery very well informed. The aftercare is great and the dietitian help is great. I would recommend the gastric sleeve and Dr. Suggs to anyone. I wish I had found him years ago. I am very please with everything. Three months out and I still get the same level of care that I received the first day I walked into his office.

I believe things happen for a reason! I first saw Dr. M in 2008 when I was seeking to have Lap-Band surgery. He strongly discouraged me from having the band and all but said he wouldn't do it. He felt very strongly it was not the right surgery for me. That's not what I wanted to hear. I was terrified of RNY bypass & sleeve was not covered by insurance at that time. So, I went to another doctor who did the lap-band surgery. That surgeon came to a new hospital for my surgery, but then decided he didn't want to remain on staff there.... he continued my care in his office, but his hospital is out of network for me - meaning I had no coverage for band fills or coverage for revision. So, I spoke with him about revision - but that it would mean changing surgeons. I'm sure that was not his ideal outcome, but in the end, it was my decision. In the meantime, I had become a part of many of the support activities provided by Dr. M's program and knew Angie (nurse), so I contacted her for guidance & I found myself going back to Dr. M, along with my husband - who had decided to have VSG also! I think it speaks a lot of him that he took me back! It was a very awkward first meeting, since I had walked away from his advise years ago.... but I think we both took it in stride! It is clear that he knows his business and sticks to his convictions when he thinks someone is making the wrong choice. He is firm, but kind.

Angie, the bariatric program nurse & Linda, the dietitian are great! So kind and very helpful! When my pre-op weight was not coming off - they were both there to help me along the way!! Jessica, the nurse in the office got all of our stuff together and we were both approved quickly!!

I recently had my last pre-op appointment with Dr. Mailapur. He asked me if I would have changed surgeons if I had not had the insurance issues. The question caught me off guard & I had a hard time with the answer. I honestly said, "I don't know". I met several of his patients in the support group meetings, and at the yearly Christmas parties they SANG his praises!! Everyone seemed pleased with him. I talked to my band group friends several times about changing to him, even before I decided to have revision. I also know the amount of support and education I have received with this program vs. the one when I got my band - is night & day!! He wants his patients educated and ready for this life changing surgery!!! So, after having time to think about it, my answer is the same.... would I have still gone to him? I don't know.... I think so... but I can never be sure, as I never really had the option to choose!! But I can say with every certainty that I am glad I did!! Things happen for a reason!!

I am editing this post on 6/25/13 to add that I had my revision from band to sleeve on April 29, 2013. After about a week and a half, I started having some complications. I was not able to keep even water down. Dr. Mailapur did not hesitate to admit me and begin trying to find out what was wrong. I was eventually admitted three times. Each time, Dr. M was highly involved and concerned. He came to my room everyday, most days twice a day! I was very pleased with his care and concern for me during a very scary & difficult time!!

Excellent experience! Very supportive surgeon, as was his office staff. I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy and was back to work a week later. It was done just over a month ago and I've lost 45 lbs. I was very happy to find a surgeon in my area to perform a sleeve procedure.

Love, Love, Love! Dr. Mailapur, Jessica, and Madeleine. They are always friendly and supportive. I had lapband surgery 10/31/11 and have lost 80+ pounds so far. The band is a tool to help me reach my ultimate goal and Dr. Mailapur is in my corner cheering me on to victory. He wants you to succeed. I highly recommend him for any weight loss surgery.

I started my foray into a surgical alternative for my obesity on March 5th 2012 at 326 pounds. I had a laparoscopic bariatric surgery accomplished by Dr. Ravindra Mailapur on December 19 2012. My first impression of Dr. Mailapur was that he was interested in me from the git go. My first conversation with him lasted about 35 minutes. My admiration of him as a humanitarian and prodigal surgeon grew with each conversation and meeting. All, his assistants, is more than competent, bubbly and supportive. You should know that Dr. Mailapur is attentive, caring and available. He delights in his profession and the blessings it can bring to others (if they take advantage of the tools he offers). He also avails himself of current studies in his field and passes that information onto his patients. I like that ALOT. He emphasizes aftercare and offers support groups through monthly meetings with him and his staff, they educates his patients about Obesity and good health. He is the person who told me about this website. He is very honest about risks and benefits and that this surgery is just a tool. He is right. That is all it is. That is however, what made the difference for me. I took his advise very seriously. I am currently at 245 lbs. April 10 2013, Overall, I would rate Dr. Mailapur and his staff on a scale of 1 to 10 at 200+. I cannot speak highly enough of his caring and professional skills. So, which is better, his bedside manner or surgical competence? Well, if you would like both, choose Dr. Mailapur and you will be in the very best of hands.

I could not ask for anyone more caring then Dr. M! The man moves at 200 MPH to be able to give as much time to his patients as possible. I promise you will never leave a meeting with out him asking you at least 3 times if you have anymore questions, and he is always happy to give you a full answer!

Dr. Mailapur and his staff are AWESOME!!! I start my long journey about 2 years ago and I wanted to give up several times. Now I am 18 days post-op and I am down 22 lbs. I have not had one minute of pain...right after surgery I had a little nausea but with medication I was up and walk. I don't regret my decision for one second. Thank you Dr. Mailpur and your awesome staff. Words can never describe how I feel...and the best is yet to come. May God bless you Dr. Mailapur and your staff.

Dr. Mailapar is one of the finest surgeons I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He holds himself to a very high standard and expects that his patients doe the same for themselves. He explains that Bariatric surgery is only a tool that he is providing, you must do the lifestyle change. I have had 10 different surgeries and never had a surgeon who cared so much about his patients. Thank you Dr. Mailapar for all you do for us who need and use your skills. By using the guide that Dr. M wrote I have lost a total of 110 lbs. and am now off a multitude of medications. I feel that with Dr. M's help I now have many more years of healthy living to do. Thanks Dr. Mailapar

Dr. Mailapur and his office staff, and the entire bariatric program at Hsv. Hosp. have their ACT together. This group runs like a well-oiled machine. From the minute I walked into the REQUIRED seminar, through the nutrition and dietician class, and all the other steps that Dr. Mailapur requires of his patients, I knew this was a goal I was going to meet! There are NO questions left unanswered by Dr. Mailapur and staff. I have been reassured that I'm being given a tool, not a "quick fix." You have to be committed to changing your lifestyle to enter this process, and the steps that are put in place by Dr. Mailapur and his staff are there to make sure you are committed. Most importantly, throughout this entire process, I have been treated with the kindness and care. I would say that my experience with Dr. Mailapur is the best I've ever had with ANY doctor, without a doubt, and I thank him for using his God given talent to help me start a new life!

My 1st impression of Dr. Mailapur was that he was straight forward and told me that he was going to give s tool to use and after that it was up to me to use that tool to maintain my losses. He was very helpful in answering all my questions. On the day of my surgery my husband and i was waiting on them to call back to get me ready for surgery Dr. Mailapur came up to me and ask if i was ready to do this and i told him that i was nervous and scared, he reassured me that it was going to ok and that he promised to take care of me and gave me a friendly hug. I would HIGHLY recommend him for any weight loss surgery. He and his staff are awesome people and ready and willing to ask any questions that you have.I started my weight loss journey in March of 2011.I had my surgery on May 16th 2011 at the weight of 321 pounds it has been a great journey and would not change one thing except having it done sooner. I still have about 5 more pounds to go but i have finally done what i have always thought was impossible. Today i have lost 174 pounds and feel better than i did when i was young. Thank You So Much Dr. Mailapur for helping me get my life back.
