March 19, 2003: New Me: 140 lbs (size 8) Old Me: 279 lbs (size 24) This is one of the best things I've ever done with my life. I now can eat and drink anything. But I have sense (so far) to know to watch it. I'm on a low carbohydrate eating plan, and make sure I eat something about every 3-4 hours (primarily peanuts, leftover chicken, string cheese) and I have a dessert daily. Yes, chocolates, etc. Before having the surgery, I was on a lo-carbo diet and used concepts from different diets (Suzanne Somers, North Slimdown, Atkins) so it is somewhat easy for me to adjust to this eating plan. I strongly recommend you change your lifestyle of eating habits before surgery. The other piece of success: don't become obsessed with not only eating but thinking about the surgery and what will change and the whole thing. I mean, I told myself to just shut up and do it. I do talk now & then about it, but I'm living my life free of obsessions now. I am so blessed to have finally lost all this weight and the icing on the cake (excuse the pun) is that I can enjoy food and finally enjoy dessert. I recommend this surgery to everyone. God bless!

I'm home!! I had the LAP RNY last Thursday 10/11th. Everything went according to plan. Surgery was about 8:30 in the morning, and I was in recovery about 1:30 in the afternoon. All docs and nurses were very helpful in letting me know what was going on (and I was not afraid to ask!). Got in my room later that day and was determined to get moving since my back was a little sore (not used to layin' around...). The nurses/docs encourage that. My bit of advice - get moving! Just call a nurse and tell them you want to be unhooked to take a walk. It only takes them less than a minute and they have so many patients, they can't really remember. Also, that night, I had a lot of burping/hiccuping/passing gas which is normal (thank God). Luckily it didn't hurt. I'll be posting more as I get a little more with it, but wanted to let everyone know the surgery went well and wish all of you scheduled for surgery soon to have an uncomplicated surgery and god bless. I've lost 4 lbs already and when I drink my liquids, my stomach get full - can you believe that?! I feel very positive that I did the right thing! Thanks to all of you for your messages as it definitely picks me up, not that I'm sad but it gets me excited. This WLS site is the best! Love you all and talk with you soon.

SALLY!!! I'm waiting anxiously to hear from you! : ) It's 10.14.01 at 9:40 pm, and I'm thinking that *maybe* you were discharged today or perhaps it will be tomorrow? I hope you are feeling *well* (on pain medication!) and that your surgery was successful and uneventful! Drink your fluids...no dehydration! Think about that bikini you'll be wearing soon...LOL... Sending healing, happy thoughts your way...

Sally, Congratulations on your surgery today! I wish you well on your journey to weight loss! Please keep everyone posted on how you're recovering. My surgery is scheduled for 10/25/01 and I'm very anxious! The best thing is knowing that we will always have ongoing support from all of our other WLS buddies. May God be with you!
