Hi Mary Beth. Give your body a little more time. I stalled out after 2 weeks and last week I lost 5 lbs in a chunk. You are probably doing fine, but your body is having to readjust. Just keep up the good work and the weight will come off. I know for me, I've read so many profiles and saw the weight just drip off of folks quick through words, but the reality is that it will come off quickly for us too, just not steadily or all at once. I bet you will lose again in a few days and it will be in a big chunk. I have to keep reminding myself to be patient, so I'll tell you too to be patient. Our bodies are going through a lot of changes. Hugs to you. Melisa

Well today is 4 weeks post op and I was totally right about my weight loss slowing. I only lost 1 1/2 pounds this past week and now I'm freakin! Is it really that I haven't been getting enough fluids and protein, or have I been just plain eating too much or getting too many carbs?

Has anyone else had their weight loss slow this much this early? How did you kick start it again? Could I have a leak or done something to blow the pouch this fast?? I ate just some plain turkey this morning trying to get a head start on proteins without carbs, and now I feel sick to my stomach. I think that may be from being upset over this lack of weight loss... getting upset always used to make me feel sick like that.

Mary Beth

Hello everyone! Tomorrow will be 4 wks since my surgery and I have to say that I'm just feeling wonderful! I put on a dress for church this morning that just this past April was tight as hen's skin (Oh Lord I just sounded like my mother!LOL) and it fit beautifully!

I'm still struggling to get in enough fluids and enough protein and I think my weight loss has slowed down because of that. I'll know for sure tomorrow when I weigh in, but I just don't feel like I'm losing much.

I'm planning to start walking more this week since I'm feeling better emotionally and physically. I was hoping to start before this, but I just found myself getting tired so quickly that I was afraid I'd get half way around the block and not be able to go back or the rest of the way around. All in time I guess... patience has never been one of my graces LOL

I hope this beautiful Sunday finds everyone well. Good luck to those having surgery in the coming week!!
Mary Beth

I had my 2wk check up today and the Dr removed the staples and drain tube... I have to say at this point how absolutely wonderful Dr. John Maguire is! He removed the staples and tube himself and I felt not a single pain from anything even though I was expecting the tube removal to hurt because the one they removed in the hospital really hurt bad. Anyway, he is just an awesome, wonderful, caring, incredible Dr and human being... The Dr and nurse were both impressed with my weightloss as I'm 16 days post op and down 28 pounds. He was a bit concerned that I'm able to eat a good 2 ounces of stuff, but since my weight loss is good he left it to look at when I go back in 4 weeks. They were also concerned that I'm not getting enough liquids so I have to start carrying a water bottle or something with me. I really like the new Minute Maid Light Lemonade, but it has Aspartame in it. Does anyone know if there are drinks available with the Splenda? I'm feeling much better today than yesterday, and wanted to thank those who replied to my post about regretting surgery. I think I was just depressed yesterday and frustrated with being so slow and exhausted as I recover. Mary Beth :)

8/18/02 -- Well ladies I'm back, but briefly, just stopped in home to shower as I'm staying with my Mom until the staples are removed. My surgery went very smoothly, and other than the first two post op days when I was cursing myself rounding for having done this to myself my recovery has been remarkably smooth. I've no pain meds of any kind since the very early hours of my third post op day, and I was released from the hospital in the afternoon of that same day (8/15). I've had no nausea, no vomiting, no acid problems, and I've been able to move from liquids to softest of the soft foods. I tried a bit of baked chicken on Friday and while I didn't have problems I did feel a bit heavy and decided to give it a few days before trying it again. My biggest and worst frustration is not being able to lay down to sleep, but with some imagination and a lot of couch pillows I'm sleeping better now than in the hospital. The only other thing I'm dealing with is getting enough fluids. I keep trying for the 64oz a day but end up feeling bloated and uncomfortable so I'm working on it.
