Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. We both wish you all the luck in the world with your recovery too. We BOTH had open rny's in 2001. Mine (Doug, aka: OLD RODEO CLOWN PANTS) was in Oct and I have lost 215 lbs. My sweet wife, Nancy, had her surgery in June and she has lost 110 lbs. 9/20/02 I went for my consult as a group the 18th. I was very impressed with the format but not too thrilled when it came down to a one on one meeting. He really pushes for the open procedure and not the lap. I think the lap just takes him longer and he could actually do 3 surgeries instead of just the one in the alloted time. He doesn't do the adjustable band because he is not familiar with it enough to feel that the band would do the job more productively. I go next month for a support meeting and can't wait for that. His nurse michelle was such an inspiration and good role model for this surgery. She didn't sugar coat anything and was very forthcoming with her answers. We talked about self esteem issues and how thinner people put us down for being heavier. Well, just that afternoon I had another consult with a surgeon to have my gallbladder removed (in fact that was done today and I feel great). She worked in same day surgery and asked questions of medical history. When she wanted to know about surgeries I told her that I just had surgery on the foot and am going to have wls in January. WELL, she looked down her snooty nose and commenced to tell me that if I would diet and exercise I would not need to have this done. I started having tears in my eyes and started defending my actions I am going to take. As soon as my foot hit the front door, I was furious. I wanted to march back in there and tell her exactly what I thought of her but since she was going to be my nurse for this surgery, I didn't want to cause problems. I am reporting her Monday on her comments to me. Will write when I hear something from insurance. PS. We had a bunch of birthdays this month including my own. mine 7th his niece 9th grandaughter 17th Niece 18th husband 19th his brother 22 my brother 23 Wow that is alot of birthdays.
