Hello Martha~“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” William Jennings Bryan. I am wishing you all the best for the next chapter of the rest of your life.

Martha, I had become very friendly with the girlfriend of a co-worker. When they bought a house right in my town, we started to shop together, go out to dinner, really got chummy. I thought I had found a really good friend.. thing is, she weighs a little over 300 lbs, and at my highest weight of 263, she would lend me clothes for job interviews and weddings, and I just really, really liked her. When I mentioned my intention to have the surgery, she seemed very cool to me, since I have had the surgery (6 weeks ago) I have not heard from her at all. I am so sorry to have lost my buddy, apparently my having this surgery is an issue for her. She has not said that outright, but I'm feeling that she is no longer comfortable with me. I'm thinking that it's probably a common thing for other overweight women who have not or would not consider surgery to feel threatened by their sisters who do it. I have no need to push the idea of surgery on my buddy, and I will still like her just the same, even as I get smaller, but apparently it is an issue for her.

Girlfriend handle your business, you're going to get that and you shouldn't care. You know what's best for you not anyone else. Congratulations on your decision to save your life!!!! Maybe she is scared and not a confidant as you are? God bless you

8/10/02 I had a nice consultation with Dr. 'Jay' 9as he is known) and all I have to do now is have some blood work drawn up and then I wait for the doctors' office to call me with a surgery date! The people at Neweigh are very good and know their business well! BTW, a lot of people speak of the post-operative pain after RNY... my sister is an R.N. and she suggests that I ask for an epidural (spinal) with Duramorph to greatly reduce post-operative pain. Dr. 'Jay' said if the anesthesiologist will do it, he has no problems with that.Might be hard to find my spine through all that fat, but it will make me wake up with less pain! I can't wait for my date!!!

Dear Martha..............I had BCBS Fed PPO and they did the same thing to me too. It was near 'open season' so I got pissy and changed to Mailhandler's<---excellent!!! Later on I heard from others that they did very well with BCBS Fed PPO. BCBS's refusal to give a pre-determination is just their special way of trying to scare us off but the doctors who have used it before have no trouble accepting it because they feel confident in being paid. (maybe not paid much but paid all the same) You just have to be 100lbs overweight and since your BMI is over 50 they have no possible leg to stand on to deny your rights to good health. Don't let BCBS worry you cause that's what they hope to do! You'll get your approval. Anywho, I can't wait to see you post on your surgery date. Best wishes to you, Martha! I wish you every success. :)

I received a letter today from Dr. Srungaram's office in Houston stating that my BCBS doesn't pay for the surgery in Texas, and if I still want it, I have to go to Louisiana to get it done AND Dr. Srungaram will not be my doctor! BCBS said I am APPROVED but not AUTHORIZED!?! What kind of deal is that? They will pay, but they won't pay...
