Long time no update???

Mar 14, 2009

Hello everyone, I am so sorry that I havent updated my profile for awhile.  Things have been very busy for me... but I do still have myspace where I am blogging more frequently, although not as often as I should.  So, update on me...

I had surgery in Sept of 2007, my starting weight was 517 pounds with a BMI of 78.6
It is now March of 2009 and my weight is 280, with a BMI of 42.5, that is a total of 36.1 BMI loss!!!!

I am feeling really good and have met many of my goals, even surpassing some I never realized that I was looking to achieve! I am sure anyone who has lost so much weight can relate to that.  I am working, and getting better and stronger every day and its harder and harder to slow down.  I feel like I have so much to do and I want to do it all at once!  I am more confident in my appearance, I am dressing nicer, showering often, and going out whenever I want without worry one as to whether I can get into the space provided, or who might stare at me, or how hard it would be to look around for fear of seeing someone make fun of me... its a whole new life and I am loving every minute of it!!!

On another note, I will be seeing a plastic surgeon this monday to start the process of what I can get removed, nipped, tucked and updated and WHEN!!!!  I never thought I would see this day, and although I havent lost everything I need to for moving forward, I am in a place were I have to consider early removal due to skin infections and overall health... so wish me luck everyone!

I am so proud of myself, and in that I am so proud of all of you who have taken control of your life and decided that it was time to admit that we needed help and then done something about it instead of sitting down with another double whopper with cheese, extra mayo, super sized fries and large ass coke, and crying about how "fat" we are took charge and made the changes to get back to life!!!!

Today, I love myself, I love life, I love my family, I love Dr. Castro and the staff at NB Surgical, and I love all of you!

Peace!
Shawn

Hi all!

Feb 26, 2008

Just wanted to let you all know that I added up-dated pictures here.  I have lost a total of 157 pounds... 91 of them since surgery in September.  I am geeling so good, and doing well physically too!

Please feel free to follow my blog on myspace... you do not need a membership to view my pictures or my writings there, just visit my site at

I would like to also invite anyone to email me here, at myspace, at or my regular email

txhockey@att.net

My goal is to help anyone I can by answering questions about myself, my life and my surgery... both before and after... I feel like support from someone who has been through it can be more helpful then support from anyone else... because I (and others like me) have been through it and we DO understand what you are going through.  I don't know what I would have done without the help and support of my family, my doctor, and my new friends at this and a couple of other gastric bypass sites!!!

God bless you all, good luck with your individual journeys, and remember you are never alone!

BIG UPDATE

Jan 19, 2008

Hi all!!! I have not posted here in awhile and thought it would be a good idea to update since so many things have happened in my life since surgery.  As of my last weigh in a couple of weeks ago I have lost a total of 77 pounds since surgery on Sept. 13th 2007.

I have also been getting a lot of exercise in the firm of walking.  I walk anywhere from a 1/2 a mile to a mile per day just for exercise.  BUT... I no longer use my wheelchair to go out anymore.  I walk when I go to the store, and I walk when I go to the doctor.  It has been 5 years since I walked rather then be pushed in a wheelchair, and I cannot tell you how much more free I feel.

And now, as of Thursday 1/17/08 I got a job again!!!  I had decided to go back to work, and I got the first job I applied for!!  How cool is that??  I cannot believe that I have gone from fat, disabled, in a wheelchair, to losing the fat, no longer disabled, walking not riding, and NOW EMPLOYED, is just four months!!!!!!!!!!  Who would have thought that four months would make that much of a difference in my life????  I know I didn't!  I figured it would be at least a year before I felt good enough to go back to work, but here I am.... and I am so happy!!  I am so free... so secure... and so... so... I don't even think there are words for the happiness that I am feeling...

But, I want to say... THANK YOU, to my family, and friends for being so supportive... and I want to send a special thank you to Dr. Castro and all the gang over at New Beginnings... you will all hold a special place in my heart... with you all.. I feel as though I have gained an extended family... and without you I would not be where I am today!!!  THANKS, Doc. C., Greg, LynnDora, Jane, Daph, Helen, and anyone I forgot.... TY TY from the bottom of my heart!
