My first impressions were working as a nurse on the floor and taking care of his patients. When I saw they caring and attentive way he cared for the patients, I knew he would be my surgeon.
His office staff is always friendly and more up to date than he! I don't know what he would do without them.
Future patients should know that he will answers all your questions until you are done asking. He is not the type to have one foot out the door. He requires all to go through a pre-op forum in which he tells ya all the good, bad and ugly. Nothing hidden with him. He wants to be sure YOU really are ready for this surgery.
After care is of utmost importance to him. Many follow up visits are scheduled with him as well as a support group.
I would rate him an A+.
A really great surgeon MUST have BOTH surgical competence and bedside manner. They work together for the better of the patient.

My first impression was that he is very straight forward and honest. He describes himself as passive/aggresive... which I have found to be true...
The office staff have been very helpful and kind. Tricia is the one that I have been talking to so far and she has been so nice with all my questions regarding the insurance.
If you want a dr. that is honest and really cares about his patients I would highly recommend Dr. Storey.
Yes Dr. Storey went over the risks with myself and my husband.
I am going to have surgery on 8/3 so I will let you all know once I get home and am able to get on the computer.

My first impression of Dr. Storey was that he was "business first." He wanted people to be very informed of what they may or may not be getting themselves into. My health was not good, so there were a lot of negatives about me having the surgery, but after shedding some tears, I began to see the "real" him. Not to scare anyone, but my surgery wasn't smooth; I ended up having 2 emergency surgeries and was in the hospital from May 4th - 21st. I still have an "open" incision due to infection. Dr. Storey has been VERY supportive and encouraging. It seemed to hurt him as much as it did me to have to have the other surgeries. I give him (and God) all the credit for pulling me through and getting me where I am today. He IS very strict, though, with the diet...or lack of! When he says nothing but water, that's what he means. But, he does all this for our own good. When he thinks we are ready, he bumps us up to the next food level. With all my complications, I've probably seen him more than most patients, but I've grown to really respect him and even look forward to my office visit. He's a great surgeon, very knowledgeable on this subject and I would recommend him to anyone. I really have no negative comments at all, even with all my problems!

I was initially intimidated as he seemed very business-like, but he warmed up very quickly. We discovered a common interest in soccer and that helped melt the ice. His office staff is friendly and helpful. They handled all my insurance issues. I didn't have to do a thing. I can't really think of anything I "liked least" about him. It's been a positive experience all around. He has a very specific protocal for after-care in terms of food and what and when to eat. He makes sure each patient is well aware of the risks involved with surgery by having each pre-op take a test about all the potential risks. You have to pass it to proceed. Surgical competence is foremost but bedside manner is important. If you don't have a surgeon that is approachable you maynot get your questions and concerns properly addressed. I give Dr. Story a very high rating.

I had chosen another dr. before Dr. Storey, and my friend at church recommended him to me. He won't even see you in his office until you have been to his very informative seminar. He pulls no punches. He will only operate on people with a certain criteria. For example no one over 60 bmi. or no one over 60 years old. That's his cut off, and all the crying and bitching won't changes that. He respects his staff and if you argue with them you will be droped from the program. He appears to be very confident and I have no problems putting my life in his hands. He also wants you to meet with his nutritionist, and he told me that there will be a test on the material. For some reason I am taking him at his word. He insists on you following his aftercare to the T. I rate him as a 10 on a scale 1 to 10 compared to the other dr. I had set up to do the surgery. He even has privledges at other hospitals to meet the insurance needs of a more diverse people. I only know about his bedside manner and it seems to be just fine. I have yet to have surgery. KP
6/11/04 Just a couple more comments...Dr. Storey is really great. He is very professional and wants the absoulte best for his patients. He also has a super duper staff. Trish the woman that does the insurance is incredaible. All of his staff deserve a standing ovation. Three cheers for Coastal Surgical Group ! Michael A. Storey.

My first impression of Dr. Storey was a great one. He gives a seminar on Gastric Bypass before you can make an appointment in his office. I like that, this way you know more and you can get questions answered. Dr. Storey is very upfront and to the point and seems very kind and caring. He's very confident in what he does and I like that.
Some of his office staff was there and they were very nice and helpful.
I will update after my first visit with him.

First impression was that we were in the same age range. He had kind eyes. I was pleased with him. He is patient and very informative. He will take time to explaine things to you and wants to be reassured that you have a clear understanding of every aspect of the surgery. His office staff is very kind and patient.
Have a list of questions and make sure each question is answered to your satisfaction.
He is a very busy man. I have had to wait on more than one occasion while he finished up with another patient or was delayed at the hospital. I believe he is the only surgeon at this particular hospital who preforms the Liproscopic Roux-en Y proceedure. A nurse in the hospital stated he has held educational meetings to make sure the staff at the hospital are aware of the proceedure and his patients needs post- op.
He stresses the importance of after care follow ups as well as support group meeting that he also attends. Aftecare is structured with time frames and lists of foods allowed. Protein, Cal., Fat and Carb intake.
He stresses the risks to this surgery and even makes you take a quiz prior to surgery to ensure you are aware of the risks.
Surgical and bedside manner are both great. If you do not present as having questions or concerns, your time spent with him will be shorter.
**Please be aware that this is my personal opinion. I am fortunate to have had a positive experience with the surgeon.

My first impression was that he is very informative and very upfront, both my husband and I attended his seminar and appreciated his honesty.
His office staff is very friendly, especially jeanett, she helped me out alot.
Just for future patients...Dr. Storey likes all of his paperwork in order...just a heads up. He also gives you alot of post-op directions and his nutritionist is alot of help as well. In my opinion I think he and his staff give 110% to their patients, before and after the surgery.
I would refer anyone that wants this surgery to him.
