Dr. Mailapur and his staff are great. Dr. Mailapur performed my RNY on May 14, 2012. During the process leading up to the surgery, Dr. Mailapur was very informative and told me exactly what to expect. Having this surgery and allowing Dr. Mailapur to perform the surgery was the best decision I could have made. So far, I am happy with the results I am seeing. Dr Mailapur & his staff are superb! The are equally knowledgeable, efficient & personable. I started this process in January of 2011 but couldn't quit smoking. When I finally got my act together in April of 2012, Dr Mailapur's office welcomed me back with open arms & got me back on track to have my surgery. I asked to have the surgery in July & they kept me on track with appointments & tests, as well as letting me know where I needed to be in my pre-op weight loss.

Dr Mailapur is very upfront & doesn't pull punches, but there is no judgement or critisism behind his words. He truly wants to help you improve your life & is proud to be able to provide you this "tool" to do so. But the results are all on you. The success or failure is based on how you use this tool. I'm six weeks past my surgery and couldn't be more thrilled with the results. I'm down 45 pounds after my RNY and my life has changed radically. Dr. Mailapur was consistently supportive, and I can't say too many great things about his office staff. They've always been there for me, and often went above and beyond the call of duty in making things happen.

After visiting Bariatric surgeons in the Huntsville area, it was clear to me from the first meeting that Dr. Mailapur was my surgeon of choice for my bariatric surgery. Dr. Mailapur has an amazing, informative program in place which supports the patient not only before surgery, but also after.

It all starts with a very informative seminar. The Doctor and his staff are there to answer any questions that you have. To be honest they do such a fabulous job with the presentation they give, that I really didn't have any additional questions. The Seminar provides details on all of the surgical options available, along with the pros and cons of each option. The Doctor and his team have clearly listened to the questions and concerns that a potential weight loss surgery patient have, and have addressed all of them in the presentation.

My insurance required 6 months of supervised weight loss with my primary care physician. Dr. Mailapur's office staff Jessica and Madilyn did a fabulous job on letting me know exactly what I needed to be aware of to meet this criteria. Once the 6 months was up, Jessica and Madilyn jumped right into action and got my insurance approval. They are both extremely educated on this process, and had me approved and scheduled for surgery within 3 weeks of my final supervised weight loss visit.

I attended a class before surgery and was provided with step by step information of what to expect from the minute I entered the hospital to the minute I left. Angi was brilliant, and literally went through where and when I would be stuck with needles etc. pre surgery, and what equipment I would be hooked up to when I woke up, and when I could expect each thing to be removed. This was really reassuring as I was able to understand every step of the way on the day of surgery. This was followed by a very informative session with Linda the dietician, who provided very detailed instructions of what I would be able to eat and when - after surgery. This class lasted approx. 4 hours, and just as with the seminar - I left there feeling completely informed and knew exactly what to expect as I moved toward my surgery date.

I had surgery on January 23rd, 2012. The thought and preparation that Dr. Mailapur and his team put into every single aspect of this process allowed me to be very relaxed on my day of surgery. I can honestly say that I was not even nervous - that's how much confidence I had in my surgeon :) I knew that he was the best. He came to see my prior to going into the Operating Room and he reassured me that he would take excellent care of me - and I knew that he would.

6 months post op, I can tell you that Dr. Mailapur saved my life!! Pre surgery I was taking medications for blood pressure, asthma, allergies and Gerd. After 6 months and 90 lbs, I am now totally medication free!!! I feel absolutely fantastic and am totally enjoying every aspect of my new self. After years of considering weight loss surgery, Dr. Mailapur was the final piece of the puzzle that made it all the perfect fit.

If you are considering weight loss surgery, go to the seminar. As you wait for it to begin, you will see a beautiful montage of before and after pictures. I remember sitting there watching and was thinking wow.. if I could lose that much weight and look like that... well I did :):) and I couldn't be happier. Absolutely no regrets.

I began my journey December 2011. I had my lap band surgery April 16, 2012. I had my first "fill" 2 days ago and am still on liquids. Dr. Mailapur has told me all along "this is only a tool to help - you must do the work by eating right and exercising". I was told the average loss was 1 -2 pounds per week. I am 15 weeks and 5 days post op and have lost 24 pounds. I have not weighed this since November 2008. I think without Dr. Mailapur's help and this "tool" I would not be where I am today!

My surgeon was absolutely surperb. No surprises with him or his team. I was well informed before, during and after my surgery. Great bedside manner and he has an outstanding support team available at anytime. I am very satisfied with my results/procedure. If you are considering this I would highly recommend Dr. Mailapur. Dr. Mailapur is awesome! He is so kind and caring and his office staff is the greatest. They walked me through the insurance process and when I was initially denied Dr. Mailapur personally called them and asked them why. After his call they approved my surgery!!

He removed my old lap-band and did the Vertical Sleeve. I also had a permanent colostomy which caused my surgery to be a very tricky surgery. He explained to me the risks involved but I knew the benefits outweighed the risks. He was awesome...I had the surgery with no complications. He made me stay in the hospital an extra day to keep an eye on me since I was his first sleeve patient that had a colostomy.

He is very kind, patient and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him!

I like to be told what is expected and what to expect up front. As with most people, I like a kind bedside manner and supportive demeanor. Dr. Mailapur is very upfront and factual and very supportive and kind. He understands your concerns and helps you understand what is going to happen and what you can expect. I am three months post op and have lost a total of 80 pounds. You will be pleased with the staff and with the doctor. They are proud of your struggles and champions your progress. I had no doubts going in and none since, that RNY was the right choice for me. You will hear use the tool I have given you wisely many times, you will feel good and make good progress if you follow the rules and guidelines you are given with this new chance to live a healthier life. I have gone from 15 ot 16 types of medication for diabetes and high bloodpressure to 0, that is right zero. This is living, I feel like I eat to live more that living to eat.

If you are looking for an amazing, professional Bariatric surgeon, Doctor Ravindra Mailapur is the one! Along with his staff, Jessica and Madilyn - my surgery was an absolute blessing! I strongly recommend everyone whose is considering this surgery consider Dr. Mailapur as your surgeon! He is a GREAT choice. Along with his office staff, his nurse coordinator Angi is amazing as well. Dr. Mailapur approaches all of his patients with amazing bedside manners! He will educate and help answer each question you may have about the surgery(s) you are interested in! He will provide a tool for weight loss and give you all the knowledge you need - to be successful overall with this surgery!He is very patient with his patients, yet very blunt and honest about all aspects of the process! He wants all of his patients to be successful in their weight loss. Dr. Mailapur takes his time with all of his patients to make sure they are fully aware of the procedure pre op and post op and what to expect during the hospital stay! My surgery was the 18th of June and I have had absolutely NO complications- everything has been amazing. Each visit the Doctor has ensured me - the decision I have made was the best one and I would see tremendous results - & he was right! Jessica Martinez is an absolute blessing along w/ Madilyn! My first impression of Dr. Mailapur was that he was straight forward in letting you know what you are getting into with the surgery. He wanted to make sure he answered any questions that you have to make a good decision on what you was about to undertake and go through with the surgery. His staff was very helpful every time that I called and answered questions that I needed.
I had a difficult surgery due to Dr. Mailapur had to undo a previous surgery for GERD and take part of my stomach. He was able to do it by laposcopic and I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. His surgical competence was excellent and his bedside manner was great. He really cared about my well being and getting well.
I would rate him with 5 stars. I know why his patients and the hospital staff talk so good about him. Thank goodness there are some good Surgeous who really care about their patients.
