i had the best experience with Dr. Mailapur! He is extremely informative and makes sure you know what you are getting into. I have never met a surgeon that took the time out to hold seminars to answer questions for you. He is extremely thorough!! His staff is more than helpful. Jessica is a God sent when it comes to handling insurance companies. I had my surgery 1/16/12 and have lost 40 lbs since. I had issues with pain in my esphogus while eating food but i calle dr. m's office and next thing i know they had an appointment set up for me with a colleage of dr.m's to get my esphogus stretched. no problems since! whenever you call their office dr.m is right there with answers and speaks to you himself! the only regret with the whole experience is not knowing about dr.m sooner!! i would have done this last year! i highly highly recommend dr. m! he allowed me to have my life back by doing the surgery and also by giving me the information that is needed to go hand in hand with this tool!!! thanks a million dr.m!

Dr. Mailapur and his staff are AMAZING. They let you know upfront everything you need to do to be successful. Go to him if you are serious and want the best care. His office staff is wonderful. Jessica is so great. She never let me give up during my pre op diet and approval process. Last visit with Dr. Mailapur had me extra excited for surgery. The morning of my surgery he came in and put me at ease. I knew everything would be alright. I haven't had one regret! Dr. Mailapur and his staff are highly recommended by me.

My first impression of Dr. Mailapur was he is very upfront but nice he just wants you to understand the risks and the pro & cons of this surgery. My impression did change before surgery he is nice but serious about what he does he wants to make sure you understand what you are getting into. His office staff rocks they are always willing to help and they have always been nice to me.I did not have anything that I disliked about him. If you are looking for an awesome and caring Dr for your surgery Dr Mailapur is your guy. He is very thorough with explaining aftercare and your diet he will go over it a lot but just to make sure you don't have any questions and that you understand everything up front. He structured before and after care he works with 2 awesome ladies at Huntsville Hospital the dietitian and nurse coordinator these ladies gets thumbs up from me you can contact them before and after care if you have any questions. He was very thorough about what could happen during and after surgery in very great detail and also gives out a great manuals that answers a lot of questions you may have and he gives you time to ask questions. Overall, Dr. Mailapur is awesome he is very caring understanding and upfront (no sugar coating it and I loved him for this). His bedside manner and surgical competence is great. He gets all thumbs up from me.

If you live in North Alabama and are looking for an exceptional bariatric surgeon, I strongly recommend you consider Dr. Mailapur as your surgeon of choice. There are alternative surgeons but you will not find a more qualified, caring surgeon than Dr. Mailapur. The bariatric program at Huntsville Hospital is certified as a Bariatric Center of Excellence and consists of Dr. Mailapur, his front office staff, his bariatric nurse/coordinate (Angi), and outside professionals who specialize in nutrition and psychology. Dr. Mailapur uses a holistic approach in educating and guiding each patient through the surgery process including seminars, support groups, one-on-one appointments and after-care that are all part of a bigger plan to help the patient be successful in their weight loss objectives. There are even former Dr. Mailapur patients that make up a hospital support group that come visit each bariatric surgery patient after surgery to help answer questions. From all the interaction with Dr. Mailapur and his staff, I knew exactly what was going to happen throughout the process, including surgery and post-op challenges. Dr. Mailapur takes his time with you and fully explains the procedure and answers any question you may have in a most professional way. Everything happened EXACTLY as was explained to me and I experienced a fast, pain free surgery with absolutely no complications. Angi Achenbach (Bariatric Nurse and Bariatric Coordinator) is a phenomenal resource throughout the process available to patients and is a big part of making sure patient questions are answered, setting up support groups and seminars, and is always available to help resolve issues or answer questions. Dr. Mailapur’s front office staff really sets his practice apart from any other alternative. Jessica Martinez is a guru at insurance and making sure that all the steps required to be completed before surgery are done correctly. Dr. Mailapur’s entire team is helpful and dedicated to making sure you will be successful in your weight loss journey.

I am almost 4 months post-op. My experience has been great. Dr. Mailapur and his staff are superb at what they do. Dr. Mailapur explained every step of the process and what to expect along the way. I have already recommended him to a dear friend and I will not hesitate to recommend him to others in the future.

Dr. Mailapur and his staff guided me through the gastric by-pass process from the introductory seminar, insurance approval, pre-surgical weight loss and surgery in an amazingly short period of time. From the first visit to the actual surgery was probably less than 2 months. I was afraid of a long drawn out process that would be discouraging. He and his wonderful staff took care of me and made the whole procedure a real blessing. At 3 mos post-op I have lost 47% of my excess weight! My discomfort was minimal, I have had no nausea, pain or any negative side effects except that my hair is thinning a little. I no longer use a bi-pap machine! Thank you Dr. Mailapur!

I am currently 2 weeks post surgery with Dr. Mailapur. I had a sleeve gastrectomy. Dr. Mailapur has a great "bedside manner". He spent plenty of time before and after surgery with both my wife and I, making sure that we understood exactly what was going on, what he would be doing, what was being done to ensure that I was as safe as possible (like what we were doing to reduce the chance of complications and such), how the diets would work, and everything you can think of. At no point did I ever feel like he didn't have time to answer any questions I had, and I believe this is very important. You need to understand as much about this surgery and what you are getting into before you have it done - you cannot go into this with blinders on because it is a huge change in your lifestyle.

In addition to Dr. Mailapur, I have to put in a top notch word for his entire staff and all of the people associated with him. From the pre-surgery nurse that spent a couple hours with us detailing what we needed to do pre and post surgery and what to expect, to the nutritionist with so much info about the different phases of the diet, to his office staff... Not one person ever made me feel that I was taking too much time by asking questions, they were all responsive when I needed to contact them.

Bottom line, it was surgery. There was pain, and there are things that you have to deal with because of the surgery (diet, etc.). But Dr. Mailapur and his staff have been excellent in making sure that I understood the implications of the surgery, what was going to happen before, during and after the surgery, and how my life was going to change afterward. There was nothing surprising about anything so far, except for the reality of watching the pounds just wash away.

Dr. Mailapur removed my gallbladder two weeks ago. He was super nice, explained the process thoroughly, and returned my phone calls promptly when I had questions after surgery. I would recommend Dr. Mailapur to anyone. I couldn't be happier with how much better I feel and how well I've recovered.

Dr. Mailapur is an amazing doctor. He was kind and took the time to talk to me and resolve all my questions before the surgery.

I had very few problems after the surgery and he was very attentive to all my concerns in the months afterward.

I think you can't go wrong letting him be your physician.

Dr. M is simply - THE BEST! He is concerned with you as a person and as a patient. He makes certain you take ownership of your weight loss and insists that you understand the big picture.

His education program pre and post surgery (along with Huntsville Hospital) is second to none! This makes all the difference in the world! I've met patients of other surgeons who were not informed and have gained much of their weight back and are not healthy.

Dr. Mailapur teaches you that he is providing you with a tool that will allow you to accomplish yur fitness, health AND weight loss goals. But it is still up to you. It is not magic - - - but I will tell you this - IT IS MAGICAL!!

As of this writing, I am just past 5 months out from my surgery. I have lost over 133 pounds, lost over 18 inches on my waist, am off of all Diabetes meds and insulin, exercising regularly - (preparing for a 5K run in April and a Sprint Triathlon in May!!!) and feeling terrific!
