Crestwood Medical Center Hospital

Dr. Mailapur and his staff are top notch in my book. Dr. Mailapur himself is very nice and informative he also doesn't beat around the bush when it come to letting you know what the risks of each procedure are. His office staff are very helpful as well, especially in helping with getting all of the insurance paperwork done.

Dr. Mailapur was suggested to me by a friend who also went to him. From what I have heard around town he is the best. I have heard that other doctors in the area aren't not as nice as Dr. Mailapur I am just 3 weeks out from my surgery and I am doing great. I knew what to expect from all the information I was given. The office staff has also been great. Would highly recommend!!

My surgery was 1/5/11...10 months later I reached my goal. I lost 115 pounds in 10 months and have never felt better. I am so glad I had gastric bypass surgery and Dr Mailapur is wonderful. The only regret I have is that I didn't have it done sooner.
I have had no problems or complications at all. The hardest thing to overcome was the mental ideas of eating & foods you eat. Once you realize you don't have to clean your plate or don't have to eat when everyone else is eating...your will be fine. Eating in the USA is social but I had to learn that eating is just to fuel my body.
Dr Mailapur and his staff are great! You are very well informed before, during and after the surgery. Their support is very valuable. I also enjoy the Bariatric support groups they have. You learn alot from other people who are going through the same things you are going through.
If you are considering having gastric bypass surgery, I would talk to Dr. Mailapur. He is the best!
Oh, I also wanted to say that 1 year after surgery I am 2 pounds under goal...I have lost 117 pounds!!! All I do now is maintain! I feel great!

I was referred to Dr. Mailapur by my cardiologist. I first met him at the required seminar that he has to introduce anyone who is thinking of have bariatric surgery to the different options. At my first office visit he answered all of my concerns and also covered things that I hadn't thought about. I am now two weeks post op and just had my first follow up visit with him yesterday he was very helpful in telling me the things that might come up and the biggest thing was how he encourages you to do your best. His office staff and his nurses that work at the Huntsville hospital were very friendly and also very informative. He and his staff do not hesistate to tell you the risks and rewards of the different procedures you have to choose from. I would recommend anyone that is planning to have bariatric surgery to go to his seminar and just see the options you have.

As a person who has struggled with weight issues since early childhood, I had come to accept my situation as just part of my normal makeup. After having children, however, my health took a downward spiral. I had issues with diabetes, blood pressure, skin rashes, etc. After struggling for four years to lose weight on my own, I began to research other alternatives.
After 2 1/2 years, I finally had the courage to seek medical advice. Dr. Mailapur was not my first choice. At the recommendation of someone, I went to see another physician. While I am not being critical of the other guy, I instantly knew he was not right for me. (He, the other guy, stated he was willing to do my surgery that day. For some reason, that did not sit well with me.) I had decided to not have the procedure because I just did not feel at peace with the surgeon I had originally seen.
Well, my issues continued to grow worse, and my medical prognosis bleak, I knew I had to do something. I had reached my own limitations, and I began to pray for someone to come into my life that would make this decision easier. After conferring with two different physicians, there was one name that both used: Dr. Ravindra Mailapur. So, I attended one of his seminars and was instantly impressed with his calming, yet confident demeanor. He spoke with confidence about the procedure, the risks, the roles all vested parties play, etc. I left his seminar uplifted. I started to feel confident about making this decision.
After the seminar, I scheduled an appointment to meet with him one-on-one. I received emails from his staff promptly, and upon arrival, I was greeted by a warm and competent staff. It was after this meeting that I was absolutely certain that I wanted to do this.
Dr. Mailapur is more interested in his patients' success and well-being than the financial return. He is very strict on his pre-operative patients, which some patients may find a bit intimidating, but know he genuinely has your best interest at heart. There were days pre- and post- operative that I honestly left upset with Dr. Mailapur, but that was because he was speaking the truth, which we all know hurts us sometimes.
Bottom line: If you are seeking a competent, genuine, weight loss surgeon, Dr. Mailapur is the person for you. He makes sure you (and your family) are well educated about the procedure; he sets and holds you accountable for goals; and he is a great motivator. I highly recommend him!

I work at the hospital where Dr. Mailapur practices and have been "observing" him for over 2 years. I was afraid of the surgery at first. But, after getting to know the Dr. and meeting many of his patients at "group" I soon KNEW that this was the choice for me!
Dr. Mailapur explains the procedure throughly, his staff is always kind, and the consultant Angi is awsome! All my questions are answered and I always feel that I am important! The program set-up by Dr. Mailapur and Huntsville Hospital helps and guides you from the Seminar, through insurance, prepping for surgery, having the surgery,a wonderful support group (they even have a clothes closet!)dietary counseling, and after-care!
I am so glad I have taken this journey and that Dr. Mailipur,Angi, and the whole staff are right here beside me.

I had my gastic bypass surgery on March 28, 2011 and have lost 97 pounds since then and am feelin great. Dr. Mailapur did a fantastic job before my surgery and has been excellant afterwards. He has been a big encouragement and educated me along the way of the big lifestyle change I neede to make and continue after surgery. His goal with all his patients is for them to live healthy and longer lives and he shows this with his concern for you the individual. You are not just a number or another surgery for him. He wants to see you succeed in your goals for a healthier you. If you are looking for one of the best gastric surgeons in Alabama, he's the one! You will not be disappointed!

Going into a life changing surgery I took a lot into factor. The Surgeon and me being the main 2 things. I got myself ready mentally as much as I could and when I found Dr. Mailapur I knew I found the 2nd. He and his staff have been nothing but Phenomenal. Dr. Mailapur his a shoot them straight doc. So, if this is not up your alley you may want to find someone to shave off the rough corners about what you are jumping into. His bedside manner is awesome making me and my family feel nothing but the utmost confidence in his work. I look forward to that hug everytime I see him. I wish I had a family doctor who took as much time and had such a great bed side manner as Dr. Mailapur. 10 stars!

Dr, Mailapur is truly concerned about your well being and success with the surgery. When he first told me I had to lose at least 30 pounds prior to surgery - I thought if I could have lost the weight I wouldn't need to be in his office. However, after talking with him I learned that it was for my own safety and if I wanted the surgery I'd better get busy. He and his staff make you feel comfortable and if you have any questions/concerns they will call you back to address them. Dr. Mailapur fully explains the risk of the surgery along with the benefits and advises if you follow instructions, take your vitamins, etc., as directed, the risk for post surgical problems become much smaller. I am very pleased and have no regrets (with the exception that I didn't do this sooner). If my grown daughter had health insurance she'd be on the telephone calling him for an appointment as I write this. His surgical competence and bedside manner are unsurpassed!
