He is a skilled surgeon, BUT has a tendancy to be cold to his patients feelings and/or needs. Some of the problems I've faced after my surgeries might have been unpreventable, but he could have made going through it easier. He let me go with a large stomach ulcer and restricted stomach outlet for 5 months. It was a painful and exausting experience.
My first impression of Dr. Kaderabek was he's quick and to the point. Over time he still remained somewhat quick and to the point, but he doesn't have a problem w/ answering as many questions as you may have for him and he makes sure you understand all answers. His office is comfy and the staff is very friendly to deal with. He does things a little different than some of the other bariatric surgeons but I think it's well worth it!!! Anyone thinking of using Dr. Kaderabek or wandering what surgeon to use can feel at ease w/ him, he does a great job, I felt great in just a few days after my surgery and my scar is 12\" (open incision) and is healing very well (matching up great). He will inform you very well on what you need to do before, during, and after surgery. You will be seeing Dr. Kaderabek for several months after surgery, so it's not just surgery and your on your own. He will also explain all the risks of surgery, and he will not sugar coat them, no need too, there are many risks but being overweight carries so many more I think. I would rate Dr. Kaderabek as one of the best surgeons out there and I guarantee if I need any other surgeries in the future I would drive out of my way to have him do my surgery!!!!!
MY INITIAL IMPRESSION OF DR. K IS THAT HE IS QUIET, KNOWLEDGABLE,YET STRAIGHT FORWARD.HIS OFFICE STAFF IS FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT.HE'S ON THE QUIETSIDE IN NORMAL CONVERSATION. THE MORE YOU TALK TO HIM, THE MORE HE TALKS BACK..HE TALKS ABOUT EVERYTHING RELATED TO WLS, BUT HE DOESN'T INITIATE OUTSIDE CONVERSATION.HE EMPHASIZES AFTER CARE STRONGLY.HE HAS AN AFTERCARE PROGRAM.HE IS HONEST ABOUT THE BENEFITS AND THE RISKS.OVERALL I THINK HE IS A KNOWLEDGABLE,CAPABLE,KIND....RIGHT NOW SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS THE ONLY THING I CAN COMMENT ON, AND I RATE THAT A "10". RIGHT BEFORE SURG..DR. K CALLED ME HIMSELF TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS THAT I HAD...IT WAS AT THAT POINT THAT I REALIZED HE WAS SOMEONE I COULD WORK WITH..HOW MANY DOCS TAKE THE TIME TO ACTUALLY CALL YOU THEMSELVES? SINCE SURGERY I CAN SAY HE IS ALRIGHT WITH ME, SOME IN INDIANA HAVE HIM TO BE IMPERSONABLE BUT WHAT I HAVE HAD WITH HIM HAS BEEN POSITIVE, AND ANIMATED....
rnI haven't had WLS, but I did have Dr. Kaderabek for 2 other surgeries and an additional consult. Get the idea I like him?!rnrnHe is very quiet, but kind and by being quiet, he actually listens to the patient.rnrnIn 1995 I had a partial hysterectomy/tummy tuck/hernia repair. He did the hernia repair (I had multiple all up and down midline due to a huge pregnancy), and in 1998 he removed my ovaries. They were so huge, that no doctor could tell what it was (I was hoping for an alien baby, so I could get rich by the National Enquirer!), so I had a general surgeon (Dr. K) and he was kind enough to let my GYN attend as well, since I was very much afraid and if it was 'female' oriented I wanted my GYN there (after a high risk pregnancy).rnrnHe didn't let his ego get in the way and was fine with her attending the surgery (btw, 'she' is MaryBeth Hinkle, who is outstanding and willing to play 'second-fiddle' at this surgery and still be there to support me!).rnrnI went back to Dr. K about 3 years ago with a lump in my abdomen, thinking it was another hernia. He said it was not, and was fine telling me to not worry unless it changed. I LOVED that he wasn't the kind of surgeon to jump at the chance to cut!rnrnSorry this is so long, but I've had a long relationship with Dr. K and wanted everyone to know about him.
My first impression of Dr. Kaderabek was WOW! What wonderful person, Not only did he know what he was talking about, but he is an understanding doctor that really cares about his patients. From the first day that I met him on Jan. 7,2004 until this day, There is no other Doctor that I would ever want to see. He truly cares about his patients. His office Staff is wonderfull and I give a special thanks to his Phy. Asst. Sherri wonderful Ladie. To rate him over all is an understatement. He gave me a second chance at life. Just to sum it all up there is no other doctor like Dr. Kaderabek.
He seems very thorough, and I know several people that have had surgery through him that have been VERY successful. He explained everything and went over the risks and issues with the surgery very well. I still haven't been approved for surgery yet, but I am working with his office. I have had one slight issue with his bariatric coordinator but I think she was having a bad day.
Dr. kaderabek is an outstanding doctor. There isn't anything I have experienced under his care that is bad or negative in any way. All of his staff are wonderful, Sherrie(his assistant) is an absolute angel.
I'm glad I took the time to research other docs and hospitals before finding Dr. Kaderabek. He is very thorough, has great bedside manner, surgical competence is excellent.
I would recommend that anybody looking for a surgeon to give Dr. Kaderabek strong consideration.
The worst thing I could say about my experience is the distance between my home and his office. It is a 2 hour commute. In the event of any emergencies, I would have to go to the local ER. There aren't any WLS docs in my local area. I fear the level of care I might receive close to home wouldn't be adequate.
