Dwayne Smith Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Very nice personand so is everyone who works with him. They help me with my insurance, told me how the surgery would go and answer all my questions in ways I could understand. I have nothing negitive to say about them because they take you through all the steps of before the surery and after.

Dr. Smith was very nice the first time I met him. He answered all my questions that I had written down prior to our meeting. The staff has been very helpful on every visit that I have had so far. They all seem very friendly and very easy to talk to. I completed the evaluation with Cindy the dietician a few weeks ago. She was very helpful, and I appreciated her input. - I had my surgery on 4/12/04. I am very pleased with Dr. Smith and Lisa. They are so great. I would recommend Dr. Smith to anyone. Dr. Smith is very competent and was very concerned when he saw me in the hospital. He didn't just pop in and run away. Lisa is very helpful to answer any questions. I am so thankful for what they have done for me!

My first impression of Dr. Smith's practice was wonderful! I went down to pick up the binder and video and they spent as much time as I needed to answer questions, explaining the binder, and giving me an overview of the process. They were so patient and never made me feel like I was taking up their time. When I met Lisa, Dr. Smith's nurse practicioner, she was very straight forward when presenting me with the facts of the surgery, explaining each detail of the procedure as well as emphasizing aftercare. She was also patient and comforting. She spent about 45 minutes talking to me and doing my initial assesment. Dr. Smith met me once Lisa had finished and when he shook my hand, I instantly felt very confident and secure in his hands. He has a very kind mannerism yet he lets you know the severity of the procedure and his expectations out of you. It's obvious that this office is committed to making the journey as smooth and as successful as possible. They screen the patients very well so that each patient understands the risks as well as letting you know that this is a very difficult road to travel, but they also made it very apparent that they were intending to take each step with each patient that walks in the door.

I went in to Dr. Smith's office on April 2nd, my 23rd birthday, and purchased the binderand video. The office staff was soo nice. I met Lynn and Linda. They were GREAT! I watched the video and read the binder later that evenning. I found out some great information...more than some of the stuff I have found throughout my research. They scheduled my first apointment with the doctor that same day and my apointment was for April 14th, 2004. I was excited but nervous because things were moving quickly. I had my apointment with Lisa yesterday. She drilled me with questions, went over my history and was very nice. She answered most of the questions I had written down to ask Dr. Smith. After Lisa was done drilling me, I met Dr. Smith for maybe 10 mins. He was a very kind and gentle man. He didn't seem to have much to say, but he definitely didn't seem like any surgeon I had met. After that, they scheduled me for my 4 week final consult with my family...May 12th. As I was leaving, they offered to schedule me an apt for the psych evaluation and the dietician, but I needed to see what insurance coverd. I left and called insurance and they cover the psych visit 90% so I called back yesterday afternoon and they got me in today, April 15th to meet with Dr. Jennifer Sampang for my psych evaluation and April 19th for my dietician apt. They are so fast!!! Wednesday night they were having a support group meeting/fashion show. It was so fun! Two ladies won a makeover and did a fashion show with two girls from Lane Bryant! It was great! A wonderful first impression. So, today I met Jennifer and she was great. Very sweet and seemed interested in what I had to say. I am nervous and anxious to meet Cindy. She is the final hurdle. She will be my last determinant! Hopefully she will be just as great as everyone else there has been! I will keep you posted! I have met with Dr. Smith twice and both times he was very friendly. I feel comfortable with him doing my surgery.

His office staff is wonderful. The have always helped me whenever I needed anything.

I feel his is a great surgeon. I haven't really had any complications after surgery. I really recommend him to anyone who is looking for a surgeon.

Dr. Smith is a rather quiet man. However I think he is a great surgeon, and he made sure that all my questions were answered.
His office staff are very helpful and always friendly (even if you call them 4 x's in one day).
The thing I least liked about him is that he is quiet,I am too so it makes it difficult to have a conversation.
I have worked in a hospital for 22 years that Dr. Smith has practiced in. I have seen many of his patients who have had various types of surgery done by Dr. Smith. I think he is an amazing surgeon. And have only heard good things about him from other patients.
Dr. Smith does have a structured aftercare program.
I especially liked that He also made my family (support team) come in on a visit with me to make sure they understood the risk of surgery and information about aftercare.
I would definatly rate him a 10 overall.
He has both great surgical competence and bedside manner.
I think the only negative thing I can say is that the Hospital He did my surgery in , he dosen't practice their regularly anymore. And I did get a feeling on a couple of occasions that He did't want to be there.

I liked Dr Smith, he made sure I knew what all the possibilities were & that I had the information I needed to make this important decision. He is very caring and is doing this surgery for the right reasons. He has a very friendly and knowledgable staff.

After care directions were very clear and it will be 6 weeks tommorrow that I had my surgery and I have already had 2 appointments with him and another scheduled next month. So I would have to say after care is very important to him.

My surgery was 1/ 7/04 and I have had no complications, have not been felt sick at all. I did not have any drain tubes, my scar looks great, I feel great and have lost 40Lbs forever. Yea!

I would recommend Dr Smith to any one interested in having this surgery. I live in Dayton and it was only an hour drive to his office and hospital. He did a great job!

When I first met with Dr. Smith he was very understanding and was willing to answer any and all questions I had. It was like I was the only patient he had to see for the day. His office staff is great, they will take time to explain and answer questions as you think of them. They are taking care of all the insurance obsticles you must go through for approval so I don't have to worry any more than I am.

My first impression of Dr. Smith started with his staff. All the ladies I spoke with over the phone were wonderful. They never rushed me off the phone, and always had a positive attitude. Dr. Smith was very nice and very informative. He went through all the risks and complications. He has a wonderful bedside manner, he was also very understanding and ready to answer any questions. The most impressive thing I found at Dr. Smith's office is the binder and videotape you have to purchase before ANYTHING else. The binder is full of information regarding pre-op and post-op. It's also full of advice from dealing with your insurance company down to all your medical history etc. I liked the videotape vs. the seminars I've been to because I can constantly view it instead of trying to remember all the info I got from seminars. If I have any questions I pop in my video and watch it.

11-24-03 Meet Dr. Smith and Lisa who were truly interested in me and were very personalable. I am looking forward to the surgery and what it can accomplish in my life and I feel very secure with Dr. Smith and Lisa that everything will be alright.
