Dear Gail.........I'm sorry BCBS is giving you trouble. Keep that paper they gave you. It's worth $1,500. No you don't have to pay. That paper is a written contract. They are hoping they can act tough and bully you into it. Let them hold their breath for that 30 days and see how far it gets them. Try contacting your congressman/woman and they can direct you to your next steps on how to deal with this. Good luck and don't let BCBS bully or try to scare you. The very worst they can do is try to put this on your credit report and you can add that letter they sent you to your credit report in rebuttal. It's such a shame we have to fight the insurance companies not only before but even after our surgeries. Please don't let them stress you out. God bless. :)
